I have hundreds of passwords, logins, memorable words etc due to work and what have you.
I do the same - however:
1. Use a late version of Excel (2019 onwards if possible) and use a long password with exclamation marks, numbers etc, a phrase that means something to you. Older versions of Excel were laughably easy to decrypt, if you knew how.
2. When sending it as an attachment, it is good practice to first zip it with another strong password, you can never be too careful. PKzip is freeware. Just write this pw down along with that of the spreadsheet, because without them you'll be stuck😄
3. Assume that nothing sent or received is ever permanently deleted. They are typically 'soft' deletes with a marker on the database to mark as 'deleted' so they are filtered out next time you look at the list. Others can ignore this mark.
4. Even then, use a personal code when writing down PIN numbers, passwords etc, you never know who might be able to open it at some point, Excel is just another commercial product written by people who may have left back doors for 'admin' access

Spark268 reacted to Agaupl in Times When Silver Was More Valuable Than Gold
Don’t forget that aluminium also once was more expensive than gold. Napoleon III had a dinner set made out of the rare metal as it was so exclusive. Not like the common gold stuff.
The Washington monument is even capped with the stuff for the same reason. Apparently the emperor Tiberius was presented a plate of aluminium and then was so worried that this new precious metal would destroy the value of silver that he had the metal smith executed.
And I’m guessing most people know that platinum was originally totally discarded By the Spanish looking for silver in the new world. Platinum literally meaning little silver (less than silver / fools silver).
hence when new things come along that look sure fire speculative winners they can quickly disappear to nothing.. at least aluminium still has good use, something don’t even have that !

Spark268 reacted to stefffana in Times When Silver Was More Valuable Than Gold
Gold and silver were mined in ancient times trying to find them as a native element (very rare for silver and more abundant for gold) or as a natural alloy with other elements.
The refining process of gold (native or in ores) was more facile than refining silver without chemicals. Gold was panned/collected in its natural form as sand and nuggets from rivers or panned as concentrates from crushed quarts rocks usually in a high purity. With a cupellation waas easy to increase its purity up to over 22-23ct.
Just imagine how difficult is to extract silver from an odd alloy or ore containing unspecified percentage of zinc, lead, copper, silver, bismuth and another few metals without acids...
This is the reason the ratio was from 1:1 to 4:1.

Spark268 got a reaction from Zhorro in Sovereign Errors, Overdates and Varieties
does anyone have any idea what this could mean?
Its a 1880 half sovereign shield. There's a slight smudge on the letter above the portrait, and this causes an indentation on the obverse, and the milled edge is smoother. There's no discernable weight difference.

I invested £1500 in to 1st and 2nd class stamps 10 years ago, as I knew it would always beat inflation. The only inconvenience in that time was doing the swap out.

Spark268 reacted to StackemHigh in Fractional Platinum (and Palladium too I suppose) -- Coins Shops/Dealers don't seem to want to buy as of late?
The Pt Market is very slow at the moment. I can still buy Pt priced below spot. I buy some now and then with beer money for the month. My thinking is that it wouldn't make sense to buy more as the profit I'd make wouldn't be worth the hastle but a bit of wealth preservation with a wee investment angle like Hydrogen etc.
I do think the market has the correct pricing for Pt at the moment.
