Plus £16 for SD is £1,000
Not an unreasonable figure. I was willing to pay upfront minus £10 less, that was my fee for the risk I was taking. If you don't jump at that offer straight away then...that scares me 😱

Spark268 reacted to DuncanWylieWilson in British India 1 Mohur 1862-C (Calcutta) – Victoria – NGC MS61 – £4,500 Posted – UK 🇬🇧
🇬🇧🐘🇮🇳 British India 1 Mohur 1862-C (Calcutta) – Victoria – NGC MS61
A rare and desirable gold issue from British India minted at Calcutta in the year of 1862 in the fledgling years of the British Raj.
Features arguably one of the most elegant busts of Queen Victoria, 'Empress of India,' as engraved by famed Royal Mint engraver William Wyon.
Produced to a conservative mintage of 153,000 but with comparatively few surviving examples, and less so in such condition as the example offered here. This piece is slabbed and graded by NGC at MS61 and boasts a gentle lustre and few surface distractions on the obverse and reverse alike.
NGC Cert # 6945800-001: https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/6945800-001/61/
Price is £4,500 GBP / €5,270 Euro / $5,630 USD / $7,740 CAD
Fully-insured worldwide shipping is included in the price.
Payment via bank transfer to UK business bank account, PayPal, or debit and credit card via my website.
Thank you! 🌟

I’ve not purchased anything but, having looked in the past, it seems to be a site that other coin businesses advertise on.
Not sure about the .co.uk suffix though. I think it was a .com American site.

It hasn't. I received payment Monday evening and money has been coming and going from my account as usual. I used a chunk of it to pay off a car loan as well.

Spark268 reacted to stefffana in Antique Solid Silver Spoons .812 Marked 13 at spot
Thank you for tag!🤗
I have seen them and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them, but from Tuesday morning I will go in holiday.
For those who are not familiarised with the Loth measurement system, this was used in many european countries during the Middle Age, before the millesimal finesse system replaced it.
"The loth standard was an indicator of the quality of a silver item.
The loth mark of silver shows the content of precious metal in the alloy - the number of loths in one Cologne mark of the alloy. 1 Cologne mark was equal to 233.855 grams, while 1 loth was equal to 14.616 grams. Thus, the loth was equal to 1⁄16th of a stamp, that is, the weight of the loth depended on the weight (mass) of the stamp.
For reference: in Medieval Europe, the mark was originally used as a unit of measurement for the weight of silver and gold.
And only after that it began to be used as a monetary unit. Due to the fact that the weight characteristics of brands differ, hence the inconvenience of this measurement system. " (https://sochicfinds.com/blogs/articles/loth-standard-silver-what-is-a-loth-numbers-and-symbols-of-silver-purity-degree)
A very interesting history of the Cologne marks of an alloy can be found on Wikipedia page about "Imperial minting standards":
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichsmünzfuß.
Silver fineness was indicated in "loth" until 1867 in Austrian empire, until 1888 in German empire, until 1891 in Norway, until 1891 in Finland,
12 loth silver= 750/1000
13 loth silver= 813/1000
14 loth silver= 875/1000
15 loth silver= 937/1000.
Note*: the marks pictured are as should be. If someone want to buy these teaspoons, can buy them with 100% confidence. I have many continental spoons with 13 loth marks in my stack, I am familiar with this marking system and all of them passed the acid test.😊

Spark268 reacted to Stuntman in Help needed
Your other old copper coins there are 1799 halfpennies. They are very worn, so don't have much value other than being interesting items that are 225 years old.
Your 1847 Victoria copper coin is a farthing. I don't know what the French copper (edit: probably bronze) coin is.
The cartwheel penny is a little more worn than I had previously thought but it's still perhaps worth £20-£25 if you were to replace it.
Nice bits of history...

Spark268 reacted to Silfrfish in Help needed
Hello there, lovely coins! From your photo, the one on the right here looks like a 1797 K.George 3rd ‘cartwheel’ penny, a copper coin that weighed an ounce (28.35g). Also called the 11 leaves penny because of the leaves on the kings wreath , if memory serves me rightly it was the first copper British penny? Someone more knowledgeable might know more about how to tell they’re real and what grade/value they might be

I also only leave feedback once buyers confirms delivery and as a buyer, once I get package I leave feedback and inform seller. I have always done it this way and it works for me. Plenty of times as seller and buyer members do not leave feedback which is a bit rude but cest la vie

Yeah, I noticed on FB groups some 1oz coins are moving to £27-28/oz which is more realistic with spot. I think we will be hitting £30 soon with the way things are going. That's assuming it is true that (apparently) the Crimex manipulation no longer has the power it once did.

Spark268 got a reaction from JohnA1 in Has the secondary silver market hit the market saturation point.
I have got a cracking solution to this wonderful thread.
how about two trading sub forums? Like the graded versus ungraded we have now.
Free Market Trades
Trades more or less as it is now. Prices rise and fall based on free market supply and demand.
Price-Controlled Forum
This is where prices are limited to spot + 40 %, it is acheived to limiting quantities to 10 oz per month maximum, with one exception for the chap who wants to offload the monster box.
The ability to trade is based on your nationality, ethnic origin and where you went on holiday in the rolling 12 month period, based on the stereotypes associated with that specific region. These stereotypes will be determined based on an annual forum poll.
there - everyone should be happy !
