  1. If this story is really a nothing burger and all the gold bars are 99.99 purity, then why would "In the same week as this crisis was unfolding behind closed doors at the Perth Mint, it was announced that Mr Hayes (then CEO) would be retiring early due to illness." IMHO, I think there is more information that hasn't been made public. So we have heard half-truths. Or lying by omission. I suspect the SGE may has kept a tight lip to save face for not spotting the problem earlier. The real story may even ruin the reputation of the SGE and the Perth Mint. So the story has been downplayed for obvious reasons.
  2. Welcome to the forum. Ignore those who are taking the biscuit ! 😎
  3. You have good taste. The Saint-Gaudens gold double eagle is an iconic piece of art and one of favourites. Welcome to the forum. 🤗
  4. @Dawnbreaker have you used these people before or know anyone who has ? Why would anyone sell precious metals at a loss, way below the market value ? Be careful that they are not trying to catch out the greedy punters.
  5. It makes sense now. Premium products at premium prices don't fair well on TSF.
  6. I don't quite follow. You are a member of TSF for a few years and with feedbacks. Are you not prepared to advertise and sell your own goods ?
  7. How do you know they are all genuine bidders and not part of a circle to catch unsuspecting gullible players ? What gold are we talking about ? If they are .999 fine gold, then this is investment gold and should not subject to import tax. If I were you, I would walk away and buy from either reputable local bullion dealers.
  8. For a moment, it frightened the life out of me. Then it dawned on me that I had placed a mirror behind the closet door ! Fear subsided. It was my reflection ! 🙄
  9. The Royal Mint has discontinued with the billion Lunar series probably due to low demand. The year of the Rat was the last one in bullion. So if you want one, it'll have to be a proof coin.
  10. When clicking on 1847 Victoria Gothic Issue, you get the following: 😕 This site can’t be reached The web page at https://www.chards.co.uk/1847-victoria-gothic-silver-crown/7853 might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
  11. It is a very nice coin. But I just can't convince myself to pay 11% premium for it when a Panda can be had for 3.5% premium. 🤔
  12. Four different designs to my knowledge - Young Head, Gothic Crown, Jubilee Head and Veiled Head. The Gothic Crown will cost an arm and a leg !
  13. Hello! Welcome to the forum. You are in the right place to discuss anything on precious metals.
  14. We have covered this before on another thread. I have used Robert Dyas Tableau Silver Dip to restore low silver coins and it works very well. Dip for 3-5 seconds (depending on how tarnished the coin is) then rinse with clean water. No rubbing so no scratches. Before: After:
  15. I don't know what all the fuss is about. All those american coins have a 180 degrees error in rotation and no one gets over excited about them.🙄
  16. Could it be that you're always the last to buy a round ? Hence, the label Chard is so cheap ! 😎
  17. I have been collecting for a few years before joining TSF. The bullion dealers I bought from were those based in London, Birmingham and outside of UK. Chards of Blackpool were not on my radar, even though they have an online presence through google search results. My preference before TSF were 1oz coins and I have not paid much attention to sovereigns before. But when members starts talking about them and seeing how liquid they are on the forum, it did influenced me to buy some. After a few searches, I decided to test the waters and placed an order for 15 sovereigns with Chards, a lesser known dealer to me at the time. I suspect by having a presence on TSF and being involved with discussions must have gained exposure and sales for Chards. 😎
  18. You are showing off your bargain hunting skills. This implies that I overpaid by £7.50 for my Thaler ! 🤔
  19. Those AliExpress prices in the UK are a real rip-off. I can get them on Taobao (Chinese version of AliExpress) for ¥5.8 or about 70p. These are genuine fakes. How many would you like ? 😎
