Get him bloody provided with sound advice John 😄

There are people on this forum who know a lot more than I do on PMs

I first pulled the trigger early 2015, it is highly likely there are people here who've been in the game far, far longer..

You do know sovereigns, britannias, silver brits etc are CGT-exempt, right?

Important to differentiate between CGT and inheritance tax. If you theoretically gift your children up to £3k worth of U.K. gold a year and survive the 7 years after the last gift, then there is no inclusion into your estate. As John says who will look too closely at a small estate anyway.

We didn't have to declare anything of value in my dad's house. The solicitor said anything cash, jewellery etc doesn't have be declared.

Leave it in a secure place and let the kids know where it is.

If it’s a gift below £3000 each year then no tax, if over then it becomes a PET ( potentially exempt gift) in which case if you snuff it within 7 years it’s classed as part of your estate….unless rules have changed.

It's a good idea to just type out a letter each tax year, even when you don't have the actual funds, gifting family members £3,000 / per tax year.

Then, in later life, assuming your finances improve in later years, you can utilise those old letters and gift more money free of tax.

CGT exempt - but not IHT exempt - big difference.

As above, I 'paper gift' on an ongoing basis; such the death duty - if we call it what it is - is reduced as far as is possible.

Have a guess about Nostradamus's predictions (gold related):

14
The great credit of gold and abundance of silver
will cause honor to be blinded by lust;
the offense of the adulterer will become known,
which will occur to his great dishonor.

28
The copies of gold and silver inflated,
which after the theft were thrown into the lake,
at the discovery that all is exhausted and dissipated by the debt.
All scrips and bonds will be wiped out.
