Ummm..I could be wrong (most probable answer), but I thought the 20 Perpera from Montenegro was only minted in 1910, and there is no 1912.?.....I hear Ibruprofen helps fight Alzheimer’s @augur... shall I send you some ?

PS Don’t forget you owe me £20,000!😃💰

You are right, it is 1912 – it is clearly getting worse.

Now where did I leave those 20 grand? 😂

A few pick ups this week on the 20 Francs front...and at last I have had delivered an 1879 Barred Anchor...the last one I bought ended up in West Africa never to be seen again!!

Nice to compare the two 1879’s now I have both.

Below is the standard Anchor...a bit like a round blob on the end if you ask me!

The one acquired today has two distinct bars on the end...

I have no idea if one is rarer than the other...if you do..please let me know.

Just a shame the 1887 I also obtained today has a hairline next to the ‘A’...otherwise it would have been my best condition Angel by far.

Also makes you aware of how buying online can lead to disappointment..A seller could easily use the 2nd photo and not the first!

Lovely pickup! The 1887 probably depends on the graders’ mood: either MS or Details but if it isn’t deep rather MS

Interesting question: neither NGC nor PCGS make a distinction in the census; I suppose Gadoury does not make this distinction either.

In theory no 1879 coin should bear the mark of Albert Désiré Barre (died December 1878) but the one you show below of his brother Jean Auguste Barre. They clearly used the dies they prepared already in 1878 but with the low mintage of the 1879 vintage they probably didn’t make many with the new mark; at least that is what I would conclude from your difficulty to obtain one.

Just completed a date run of these 20 Francs coins...but the collection is not complete...

am missing an 1896 ‘Torch’ engravers mark.

Already aware of one at Gadoury

Go for it 😉

I just received this and definitely the BEST reference with vast history and original images of equipment and tools and utensils; in French though

recommended at the highest to any French Franc collector (and leagues better than The Gold Sovereign for collectors of the other coin).

So, due to this thread I decided to buy an LMU coin instead of a full sovereign as my next coin.

My first 20 franc came in yesterday (well the day before but it was given to a neighbour?!) - I know it's the least rare and a re-strike and i'm ok with that as my first :)  She still has some shine to her and there's good depth on the lettering still.

A puzzle maybe solved..the 20 Franga Skanderbegus.

I was wondering why the 1926 was minted in Rome, and the 1927 in Vienna..this has proven to be a tricky question!

After some research...this is the best I could  come up with..If you know different..please tell!😃

‘While Benito Mussolini provided nearly all of the financing for Albania during the rule of Amet Zog, there was always the insistence on Zog's part to play nominal allies off one another, hence the striking of some Albanian coinage (such as this coin) in Vienna.’

@ilovesilverireallydo   that 20 Lire's are really rare and expensive. I think I got like around 60 different 20 franc size LMU coins, but that one is stil on my wishlist. Congratulations

Interesting

it was acquired for a German contact of mine. I think it ended up,at £545 with shipping and commissions to the auction house.

Just curious...can anyone enlighten me as to what are the real rarities on the 20 Francs front...I also have about sixty 20 Francs LMU coins, but all bar one are huge mintages, and not particularly hard to find. I have never spent any time looking to find out which ones are the rarest...if anyone can suggest a few, I don’t mind trying to track them down as and when time allows...don’t worry...I can’t afford to buy them at the moment...just look ☹️!

What a lovely example of the Swiss 20 Franc coin!

There's something about this particular coin that I just absolutely love :)

Me too....I so nearly started to collect these Vrenelis a year or so ago. I decided to collect the French Fr.20 Francs Genies (angels) instead. But...I can’t remember why. I’m not sure one or two of the Swiss Vrenelis are really really rare, and would’ve been expensive to obtain..that would have put me off as when I go for a date run...I have to complete it! OCD I know☹️!

I believe @SilverTanner has tucked away some real rarities... The 1926 Albania 20 Franga Skanderbegu Fasces Privy is  pretty rare after 90% got molten down with 10 surviving examples.

Since you have the other two, you kind of need to complete now the trinity 😜

You are so asking for trouble @augur!😂. If you wind me up any more on this Skanderbegu, I may start bidding on a particular 1912 coin currently up for sale on EBay!!...you know the one I mean!😂😂😂👍

There is one of these beauties in MS-64 for sale on MA-Shops...https://www.ma-shops.com/worldmoneyshop/item.php?id=592

Hi. Fortunately for me, the one above at ma-shops is the standard one, which I already have. The coin @augur is referring to is the same year, 1926, but has an additional engravers mark (fasces). There are only believed to be 10 in existence so do not come cheep. One sold many years ago for ‘a lot’ of money!..see below

I am hoping my good friend @augurbought this, and will be wrapping it up, and sending it to Yorkshire around Christmas time😃!
