Good buying and investing though!   Them were the days £175 for a sovereign! Do you remember there was only about 10 of us on the forum per day and it was a competition who could get the cheapest gold.

    Thoses were the days
Just keep buying little and often, you will catch the dips, buy the high.  in the long run you should keep moving up in value with time

we might be looking at 2011-2015 wave A
    then 2015 until sometime 2020 wave B
(assuming wave A = wave B in timing, in reality
we don't know until wave C is clearly confirmed
    to have started)
2020 until maybe 2024 will then be wave C.

this is all assuming it's a recognisable complex
combination and not some really complicated
    wave.

many pullbacks are structured in 3 waves,
given the names A,B and C.
the middle wave B is a rally (up wave) within the
larger pullback. you can see how the 1985-1987
wave B was within the larger pullback from
1980-2002. it was an up trending wave within the
price confinement of the larger pullback wave.
so the pullback wave goes: down, up, down.
the most common fib ratio for a wave B is to
retrace 61.8% of the wave A that preceded it.
for gold this would be ~$1600.
now that we've hit $1600 it's a matter of waiting to
    see what happens.

My guess is there are a number of members who believe the price of the metals will fall - there is a lot of stuff coming onto the selling forum - i see this when gold gets high and members think about taking some profit.
Often times it is a good tactic until it isn't.

I have been told 'Industry does not need Rhodium to such high prices and are not buying'.   It's up to you if you believe the comment.  I personally am suspicious of the price, the price stinks of someone who has cornered the market or a bank who has been caught naked short!
Get in on the action if you want but do not get burnt!

I sold mine now.  I'm out i only had a small amount.
I only bought it because Bairds started to mint Rhodium and i thought i would buy it because no one else had it.

I read this thread, obviously people are getting excited with all the 'profits' they are going to make.
It certainly looks like shill bidding on Ebay for the said restrike of the Una and the Lion.
There are a couple of points i would make.
1 Who the f-ck would pay £20,000 for a coin without a middle man.  People on here compain about being ripped off for £20 never mind £20,000.
2    As a seller it would be really easy to rip a buyer off with this coin through Ebay.   I will not say how to do it on here though I am sure you will know how to do it and if you don't, just think for a bit  .  It is my advise do not pay that amount for anything on Ebay!
Not everyone is honest and i am not for one minute suggesting the sellers of these Una restikes are dishonest but at these prices i would want a 3rd party expert at both our costs for my comfort and reasurance.

    We have a conclusion!
First off, thank you all for your contributions. It's super helpful having a community like this to share knowledge. Sorry if I missed anyone!
    I took the coins back to the dealer today who was actually very good about it. Conclusion was;
1915 - good! It's tests as 22ct, which is consistent with the suggested findings from the specific gravity test. It's weight is also good. Per the consensus on this thread, it appears it may have a mint error mark. The dealer had no concerns with it.
1903 - not good! The chap barely had it in his hand a few seconds before scowling, apologising and saying it shouldn't have been sold. He didn't give much more information than that, but it's going for melt and I took another half home as a replacement (which weighs and measures good).
p.s. If anyone tells me the below is a fake I may have a heart attack 😨😂

If you got in first then fine we'll done, but only an idiot would pay those prices on eBay etc.  In fact I don't think the coin is worth that money.  You could buy some very good coins for that money.

I have only about 15 half sovereigns they are not my thing. But having said that I collect sovereigns, to me the Melbourne sovereign looks not right on the reverse general lack of detail.    I know it's worn, questions like lack of detail in the ground!   Ask Sovsteve to have a look.
I agree the 3rd side damage would make the coins harder to fit a capsule.  Also there are some very good fakes around that time plus some badly struck correct ones.

@vand Finally got a copy if The Millionaire Next Door for Christmas. Actually got two copies as accidentally asked for it from my partner and mum! So far such a fascinating read, it’s really in line with my views on reaching FI and also the perception of wealth.
I always find it so odd that people gauge how well they are doing by the money they have just SPENT. Spending £XXXX on for example a car doesn’t make you £XXXX richer, it just makes you £XXXX poorer!
If you can spend £XXXX on an investment or asset, ideally that will produce a modest £X in income or growth, thats when you can get get excited, and hopefully richer. Problem is, if you’re smart you’ll keep it to yourself, unlike the guy who everyone thinks is all of a sudden so rich because of the shiny new car that is actually making him poorer.

Having had a brief look at this thread, even the most disciplined entrepreneur with exceptional money management skills & hard assets(business, land, property, shares etc) has a 40% chance of failing to achieve financial independence in 10 years. Read Divorce, I became financially independent at 51 years of age although it took me 25 years to get there not 10.
Divorce shatters that so keep her sweet lol.

Key takeaways from The Millionaire Next Door (none of these should come as a surprise):
    - Typical Millionaires ($1m-$10m) tend to have a strong offence (high income), although not spectacularly high. The median was $131k (in 1996).
    - They are mostly college educated, and believe education is an investment
    - They also have strong defence (frugality) in relation to their incomes
    - The structure their spending and investments to take advantage of tax law
    - They are overwhelming dominated by business owners and entrepreneurs
    - They own their home, have been married for a long time with children
    - They are not traders. They invest long term, usually holding what they buy for 5 years or more, and overwhelming for 1 year or more
    - They live in nice but not exclusive neighbourhoods
    - They overwhelming drive modest used cars paid for in cash and understand that a car is the ultimate expression of lifestyle creep

There is also some interesting sections on what they dub "Economic Outpatient Care" - supporting grown children who are unable to support their own lifestyle. They interestingly propositions that by overly providing for and spoiling their children, the self-made affluent are doing more to harm their development than they realise.
