I have been itching to buy some shiny stuff recently but the spot price has been putting me off somewhat. Spotted this on Atkinsons’ website on Thursday for £365 delivered. I have quite liked this since release but not at £480 the Royal Mint are asking. It came complete with all packaging etc.
    Itch scratched... for now!

Received today from @Gildeon big thanks. I am amazed that such a tiny  coin was used in everyday transactions. There must have been thousands of them down the back of peoples couches.
    Apologies guys, I don't know what I was thinking🙄

Not a coin but coin related. A Harrison's improved sovereign balance. The coin needs to be the right weight to balance and the correct thickness fit through the slots.

I broadly agree with Goldmember44's sentiments; but I think this particular event is unusual not only in that for the majority of us we never saw recovery from the  2008 recession,  but that never before has there been a period of sustained interest rates below 4%, or large scale negative interest rates! or global extreme GDP debt (except during sustained war). Devaluation of currency by Governments has historically resulted in economic collapse and shifts of power (Spain/Roman/British Empire/2nd Reich Germany/France & I guess now the US). This is compounded by a global slow down in manufacturing/commerce etc which seems to be independent of the finance markets; and global overexcited housing markets. Then there's the derivatives issue and the fact that Ag/AU seem to be held back artificially (pre Basle)
The uncertainty of Brexit has escalated the price of Gold to the highest recorded in national currency in the UK, (but also I believe Australia/Japan/Canada/India/NZ),  although not yet the states. I guess this suggests room for manoeuvre and a little more growth....

Got these today. Love the Valcambi bars. Got them for a very good price. Amazing. Also got a 2011 1/2 Britannia that I actually listed after thinking it was a mess. Got home gave it a very gentle polish and the dirt came right off. It wasn’t milkspotted at all. Keeping the little shiny thing now!!

Added 0 minutes later... That’s a great picture! Lovely little stack there!!

I know folk on here (and some who may be seen as Youtube 'pumpers' on other coins) who are rather quietly hoovering up top condition Brit proofs in the hope (a reasonable bet imvho) of just that! It's a bit out of my comfort zone though so I haven't dipped in. With current spot though if you're looking at a 1/4 Oz gold purchase it's certainly worth a punt I reckon, don't think they will hang around too long at Atkinsons!

One has to admit these mintages are very low, comparatively speaking. If the Britannia series ever gains interest from collectors in the US, or even China or elsewhere (and it might...) then only a handful of potential collectors would be able to complete their date runs, and likely fight over the available coins in the market.. driving up prices a lot. But I'm really speculating now.  Actually, to a certain extent the same holds true for modern sovereign proofs...perhaps even more likely.

I may be wrong (only ever bought bullion from them, and very happy there every time) but I get the impression Atkinsons are usually quite clued up (? - longer term/more knowledgeable members will have a far better idea there). However, it could well be one that NCS could work their 'magic' on if there are only minor issues. Even if not, it's certainly a deal at current spot!
Off-topic (soz!), but long-term I see the Brit proofs very possibly doing quite well eventually off the back of increased worldwide interest in Sovs. It's not a series I've bought into at all myself, but one I hope does well for everyone who has

Yes, who knows it may have some marks... I see it says the condition is "used". But then again, they may have high standards and the coin may be perfectly fine. But as you say, not for someone who intends on having it graded, hoping for a 70.

Pre-owned though, not worth the risk grading for collectors perhaps, more of a reasonable bullion price?
