If I remember well, you have had some nice 10 & 20 Francs very close to spot.
They are small, affordable, easy to re-sell them.
In my opinion a good choice for world coins.

I suspect many would lose the desire to buy once prices had been falling significantly for months or if all at once also! It's human nature!

Oh yes I remember it a lot lower sub £300 and I used to have to check on Teletext for the up to date price, either that or buy the FT.

2% premium on sovs is pretty good. Bars will have no advantage I can see - plus sovs are recognised all over the world.

    Hi everyone
I am also new and had the same question but I took the plunge and went for sovs over bars purely because of how liquid they are especially on here.

    I can actually order to an address in UK. Been looking at these;

Premium is just over 2% on these and CGT / VAT free. Thoughts?

    Check out the Portuguese taxes.
In the UK gold bars are liable for capital gains tax, whereas sovereigns aren't.

Knowing that you are in Europe and using Euros, why not see what deals @SVcollector on Sovereigns. It would be cheaper for you than buying from BBP.
100% Keep away from bars. More headaches than they are worth.

The VAT makes stacking silver in the UK more challenging. Buy and hold: at as close to spot as possible. Value your silver stack at spot, that way you will not be disappointed.
Take all those youtube panic merchants with a ginormous pinch of salt!
As to the supposed silver market manipulation I have no comment as I don't know about that.
    Happy stacking 👍✌️

Silver … you can either stock up on cheaper 1oz coins/rounds or buy some more expensive bits .. or a mix of both. Buying on here or second hand no VAT issues. I started off buying silver, however, I wish I had saved and bought more gold! A mix of both is no bad thing, but I personally would try and concentrate more on gold. As mentioned, a nice sovereign, or a half or 1/10ths. Don’t get hung up about high premiums on smaller bits. Some great deals out there, plus not really an issue when you sell .. unless you go somewhere like a pawn shop!🤔

One might argue that real money has no 'true' price anyway
When pricing in debt instruments, it is the (perceived) purchasing power of the particular IOU that is at play, not the indestructible element - which is inert
So all they have to do is manipulate the other side of the equation (vulnerable to rumours/confidence/perception).

PhilB reacted to SeverinDigsSovereigns in Any advice for a new uk based stacker ?
UK based stackers should focus on CGT exempt gold. Sovereigns and Britannias for instance. These are legal tender coins and won't get taxed for profit. This may or may not change, but for the time being they do hold this advantage.
As UK based stacker you also benefit from the easy access to sovereigns. World recognised and highly liquid. And with trained eyes you can tell whether they're real or fake.
If you buy bulk quantities of sovereigns, you might be lucky enough to find the rare ones and make a profit. Bit like buying lottery but you get your money back even if you don't win.

I m a bit skeptical. I myself just get one per year as i dont see how those Bullion could guarantee a significant gain in the next years. Scarcity and grading are always ruling the market and these modern bullions are just not scarce and always in perfect conditions..
