Afternoon all.

Looking to squeeze one more sovereign out of this year. Im quite low on coronation and memorials. Which one will hit the big time in a few years to come?

I'll probably be looking at 2024s in the new year so hoping to grab one last sovereign before Christmas.

Cheers all

When the RM decides for the same design on proofs and bullions.. its a lose lose situation.

people dont wanna pAy any relevant premium on proofs as they can get the same potrait for much less money, and they are not particularly attracted by bullions neither, as they are expensive (8-10% over spot) and with theoretically unilimited mintage.
have a look at 2001-2003-4–6-7-8-9-10-11-13-14 sovereigns. Boring Bullion and proofs. Not sought after and they all look the same.

“Normal year” should be treated differently imo. Few proofs like in the 90’. And no Bullions.

Any special reverse will be more desirable in the future, it may not add a lot of value but as new collectors/stackers start buying most people usually want at least one of every special reverse.
They do have a small premium, even the 2017 privy, but will be a couple of years before that applies to the platinum/memorial & coronation sovereigns

My money would actually be ont he memorials for bullion.  As they were an 'extra' sovereign the run was a lot shorter, spot was also very high at the time they were being minted so cost more to buy than the platinum jubilee.  I would guess their overall mintage will be considerably lower than the other two because of that, especially the jubilee sovereign as people went silly for that when the Queen passed away.  I still have a few mind you but I bought them at the time as they were the cheapest way to buy especially when Tavex started up in the UK and started selling them

I went carded memorial in the end. I have the Jubilee and C111 Coronation carded already so on that rather flimsy reasoning, went memorial.

I have the proof version. Hoping that picks up at some point but in no rush.

No need to purchase any 2024 sovs next year then? Will just be another 'basic' year for sovereigns assuming Charles makes it through?

May look at changing tact next year and look more at gillicks, Vics and Georges etc

As much as I would like to cover each sov date for every year I'm finding it harder and harder to accept the copper finish. I've now siwtched back to old sovs and some carded modern sovs. I personally like the memorial design a lot and you can't go wrong with the carded version. Nice one 👍

Yep, i see your point. As a relatively new stacker my (up till very recently) oldest sovereign was a 2022. Did a deal recently and recieved a couple of slightly older but 'with copper' sovereigns.

Also last month i purchased a young Vic. Its stunning so I'll be looking at older coins in the future.
