I have said this more than once 🤦‍♂️but then new shiny appears. Good luck with it though. I think an important aspect is still that you enjoy doing the collection in the first place, or at least it is for me.

Even more of a reason to get CGT free assets then 👍

@stefffana agree with lots of different countries with 1/10 oz but depending on collection and intent not good for CGT.
@Petra I also feel your pain, have all the intention of saving up for bigger coin but then, oww shiny and end up buying smaller coin with a higher premium, as you say though not too fussed as the premium carries over on sale.
Interesting hearing peoples point if views though.

Aye, CGT allowance is MAHOOOOOSIVELY coming down. It'll be a mere 3 grand a year in the not too distant.

You have the right idea! I have more 1/10ths and halves than full sovereigns. Usually the problem is that I get impatient and can’t wait and save to buy sovereigns, have to buy, so get the smaller stuff or silver. Although, if lucky and something doesn’t get scooped up on here immediately, then quite often the price drops and a quick swoop is required! Even a fiver here and there makes a difference.🤔🫢🎄

I suppose less of an argument in this case but more relevant to original alternative and what @James32 also suggested the sovereign. These are not strictly coins, they are rounds no fiscal denomination. Where as the sovereign by the royal mint is a coin therefore is legal tender. Meaning its also Capital Gains Tax free should it come to that in the future. Hope that helps @AaaGee

Half sovs are a nice size. I think 1/10ths might be more liquid, I've seen half sovs stay up for a while unless really, really well priced, or something like a shield.
Constantly seeing multiple 10th ounces being sold as a bundle, as well as on their own

Honestly I echo almost everything above, except I will add I've the double sovereign in gold and I personally find it a nice coin. The gold counterparts can pop up cheap from time to time close to spot.
These silver ones are nothing but an extortionate mistake if investment is the purpose though.

1/10th Brit Pros= Cheaper than Half a Sov.
    1/10th Brit Cons= It's not Half a Sov.
    Half Sov Pros= It's not a 1/10th Brit.
Half Sov Cons= It's not a Full Sov.

Thanks everyone. The dealer has offered to reimburse the money for the return delivery costs. I will take your advice and list it as a souvenir.

@StayGold i know this isn't answering your question, and kind of echo's @James32 comments. But presumably not a Christmas present, given tight time frames. Not knowing what you paid for it, do you have time to list it on he (with description noting flaws/damage) and order a replacement. May work out better financially for you overall?

ShineyMagpie reacted to James32 in Hi everyone - I need your help
    Hi @StayGold, welcome aboard firstly.
You need a CN22 form ( it can be downloaded online, but you can ask for a self adhesive one at your post office)
Very east to fill in, when it comes to description of contents, put souvenir or holy medal. For value in this instance you can tell the truth, but I would opt for under £20 value as its less likely to go missing.
Postage for international tracked from memory is around £10

With all that being said, ask yourself is it worth the hassle and extra expense.
Without knowing what you paid, a similar coin sold recently on here for £36 I believe, so maybe it would be better just to cut your losses and sell the coin for a few £ less on here ( describe/show the flaw accurately and honestly) and it will still sell if priced right.
Then use the funds ( with the extra £10 you would have used on international shipping) and buy something closer to home from a UK dealer.
Or even put up a wanted post on the forum?

Apologies in advance if this isn't the appropriate subforum to start this topic.
As per the title, I'm in need of advice... on sending gold bullion to Germany from the UK.
I purchased a small gold coin from a reputable German bullion dealer but unfortunately it is damaged, however they have offered me an exchange - problem is I don't know how to legally send a gold coin to Germany.
It's a 0.5g Mini Roo so it isn't worth that much but it's a gift for someone so I don't really want to send the coin uninsured. I tried to send it via the Post Office today but they said that both Royal Mail and Parcelforce prohibit the sending of "Money" - the coin is legal tender in Australia.
Thanks in advance, and any help regarding this is greatly appreciated!

Buddy line up your PM investment next to at least 2-3 alternatives. Help to buy isa included. Then do all of them, leaning to the one thats your best bet, safest return... becuase you're betting a house on it.
Many many years ago in your shoes, I did the same. Then turned to a side hustle of unpacking CEX time crisis game, gun and sensor packs and selling individualy 2-3x. Any idiot can do it. Cost me £20 to start, made 5 figures.
Point is gold sits around doing nothing. Same as savings accounts. They're both easy for busy people, which is good. Feeding the spending habit is not a bad thing, direct it.
    Not a financial advisor.

Just save your money, then buy. Gold coin every other month or so, odd silver in between (or not). Trouble is it gets too tempting to buy smaller coins instead of saving.

    Sure, but what size?
Is this some kind of test / guessing game set by @harry12?
Are there any prizes for correct guesses, or near misses?
