Apologies in advance if this isn't the appropriate subforum to start this topic.

As per the title, I'm in need of advice... on sending gold bullion to Germany from the UK.

I purchased a small gold coin from a reputable German bullion dealer but unfortunately it is damaged, however they have offered me an exchange - problem is I don't know how to legally send a gold coin to Germany.

It's a 0.5g Mini Roo so it isn't worth that much but it's a gift for someone so I don't really want to send the coin uninsured. I tried to send it via the Post Office today but they said that both Royal Mail and Parcelforce prohibit the sending of "Money" - the coin is legal tender in Australia.

Thanks in advance, and any help regarding this is greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome to The Silver Forum :)

You could put it down as “collectible coin” maybe, that way you don’t give away that its gold inside. Royal Mail Special Deivery will cover gold in the U.K., unsure which service you would need for sending abroad insured but other members who regularly sell to the EU from U.K. etc should be able to help more :)

My posts are my personal opinions, they do not constitute advice or financial advice.

Hi @StayGold, welcome aboard firstly.

You need a CN22 form ( it can be downloaded online, but you can ask for a self adhesive one at your post office)

Very east to fill in, when it comes to description of contents, put souvenir or holy medal. For value in this instance you can tell the truth, but I would opt for under £20 value as its less likely to go missing.

Postage for international tracked from memory is around £10

With all that being said, ask yourself is it worth the hassle and extra expense.

Without knowing what you paid, a similar coin sold recently on here for £36 I believe, so maybe it would be better just to cut your losses and sell the coin for a few £ less on here ( describe/show the flaw accurately and honestly) and it will still sell if priced right.

Then use the funds ( with the extra £10 you would have used on international shipping) and buy something closer to home from a UK dealer.

Or even put up a wanted post on the forum?

I like to buy the pre-dip rise.

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.

@StayGold i know this isn't answering your question, and kind of echo's @James32 comments. But presumably not a Christmas present, given tight time frames. Not knowing what you paid for it, do you have time to list it on he (with description noting flaws/damage) and order a replacement. May work out better financially for you overall?

Thanks everyone. The dealer has offered to reimburse the money for the return delivery costs. I will take your advice and list it as a souvenir.
