  1. I’m clearly too content in my own protective bubble. I’ll stick to the cities in the north.
  2. I was looking at your original photo and trying to make out if the products on display were security products. Failed to see that they were only pictures. Thanks for the explanation.
  3. Sorry to hear that. I hope your direct debits come down in the near future.
  4. Wasn’t this a thread about the car dealer at one point? 😊
  5. I’m the opposite. I always carry cash on me. Then again I don’t live in London and my chances of encountering some knife wielding robber who’s twice the size of me is significantly reduced where I live. Cash is very handy in case of emergencies, such as when the payments systems crash in the supermarkets or wherever. All those shoppers who rely 100% on their cards having to abandon their purchases and make a mad dash to join the long queue at the nearest cash machine, hoping that it will still payout when it’s their turn. Cards are a necessary convenience, but think of the above scenario and try to have some cash handy for the unexpected. Just my penny’s worth.
  6. I didn’t. But I will now. I understand that you were rushed to hospital with crush injuries after sitting underneath the letterbox all that time being covered with junk mail 😁
  7. But he might start collecting mule coins instead.
  8. I thought that you were targeting the regular proof version the last time I read your thread. I guess it’s about what version you can source at the time? Having said that, when it comes to coins I say one thing and sometimes end up doing the opposite. It’s easy to change my mind when I give it more thought. A magnificent coin to start your 1oz collection. Well done with your decision.
  9. That’s good enough for me thanks. Please PM your details (no rush tonight) and I’ll make a BT tomorrow afternoon if you’ll hold it for me until then.
  10. Hi Fenlander. I’m interested in the Robin Hood coin. It would be a gift for my adult son who is archery daft. Could you post better pics of that coin please? Thank you.

    SOTD sovereigns

Hi Jason. If you want to know more then go back to the 3rd post on page 1 of this topic. Richatthecroft has provided a photo of a page which lists them.

    SOTD sovereigns

A poor description nevertheless. No offence intended so thanks E for that. Indeed, your knowledge (particularly on the modern sovereign) has elevated you to coin Guru.

Glad to see that I’m not the only one. In my case it’s doing some business with Chards when I’m in NW England.

    And instead you chose Baldrick.

In all honesty I prefer to deliver my coins to the recipient by hand direct. I drive down to NW England to drop off my coins for grading with GoldDigger Dave and return to collect them. The one coin I’ve sold meant a drive to NE England when I sold a coin back privately to the person I’d originally bought it from several years earlier. Obvious this can’t continue forever more if I want to sell anything further afield. Hence my earlier question regarding the over inquisitive lady at the Post Office.

If only I had a gold coin the size of a steering wheel.

Apologies folks but I too would like to go slightly off topic regarding sending coins by special delivery. I’ve noticed a few times when stood in the queue at the Post Office that the lady behind the counter asks customers can you tell me what the package contains? I’d never dream of stating a gold coin for obvious reasons, but if you were confronted by the same question what answer would you give (apart from calling her a nosey cow)? Thank you.
  19. Not that I can currently afford a 2oz gold coin but I hope this design doesn’t devalue our 2017 quintuples - the proof being hard to source in particular. Hopefully the low mintage will not.
  20. I agree. Having compared both versions side by side the reverse of the BU/DPL indeed matches the proof. The obvious difference is one obverse is proof and the other is BU. My BU has recently achieved a MS70 DPL grading and should be on its way back to @GoldDiggerDave - a great result after his personal conservation on it. A great coin to own for the price as the front of the slab displays a reverse as good as the proof.
  21. 1,000 mintage for the BU/DPL and 750 mintage for the proof, though I’ve seen 749 mintage for the proof listed by some dealers in the past.
  22. Worth a Like for the opening sales pitch.
  23. Watch out Clive. His name isn’t Thomas. I’ve fell for that one in the past.
  24. It’s amazing where a free bus pass can get you these days 😏
  25. Well done to the rest of the members too for their coin donations to the cause. And hats off to the bidders as well.
