  1. @Darr3nG and @AndrewSL76 sorry to see you’ve both received these with issues. The 2022 platinum SOTD sovereigns weren’t without issues and from the ones I’ve seen they still graded well. I honestly think it’s because they’re rushed to mint them the same day. But that’s no excuse for poor quality.
  2. Thanks for sharing. Although not everyone will agree with me I think his portrait has been very well depicted on coins for his age. He looks dignified but yet looks like he’s carrying the weight of the country on his shoulders or head. I noticed that watching the Coronation and felt quite sorry for him. It’s not a job I’d want. I could be wrong but I sort of see him as the Edward VII of our time, a Prince of Wales in waiting to be King and possibly only one portrait of his reign. Quite sad really when you think of it.
  3. 2016 100th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic A nice proof 2016 .999 coin issued by the Central Bank of Ireland for the 100th anniversary of the Irish Republic. This includes the original gloss box and the interesting information leaflet. Year of issue: 2016 Quality: Proof Diameter: 22mm Alloy: Fine Gold .999 Denomination: €50 Weight: 7.8g Edge: Milled Quantity: 5,500 (limited mintage) COA Number: 2400 As you will see, there is a small white mark inside the capsule by the ‘U’ of Euro. This is on the capsule only and isn’t on the coin. There is also a feint scratch on the harp side and this is also on the capsule and not the coin. The scratch moves on the capsule as the capsule is turned. I wanted to point this out to any perspective buyers. Price: £495 plus Special Delivery. UK delivery only but I would consider courier delivery to Rep of Ireland. Payment by bank transfer.
  4. As the gold price continues to rise half sovereigns will be in high demand. Its better to have a half of something than a half of nothing if it fulfils your gold buying goals. Either that or we’ll all be cutting full sovereigns in half to sell like they did in Medieval times with hammered coins.
  5. 10 carat and the Superman logo? It’s most likely a makers mark.
  6. @n1k0s this is ‘ghosting’ and is common with George V sovereigns. It is basically when the coin is struck, the obverse slightly intrudes into the reverse. I’ve also seen this with Gillick Queen Elizabeth sovereigns too. But it is most often seen with George V sovereigns, pre 1929, which is one of reasons for the reduced portrait of George V and the reason why we now have the ‘small head’ variety from 1929 - 1932 on all sovereigns minted between these years.

  8. @Von if genuine, the 1965 looks like a possible mis strike or it could have been damaged. This is what it should look like:
  9. I think the change of the reverse design in 2022 and now 2023 has just coincided with events. It might seem like the sovereign reverse design is being changed too much but soon it will revert back to St.George and dragon.
  10. You’ll be sent to The Tower for such comments on here. 😆
  11. I’m not sure if any other members have posted about this but it has been released by The Royal Mint that there will be a Coronation Sovereign. I take from this that there will be, of course, aside from the STOD 6th May 2023 Sovereign, a new Coronation proof sovereign and a bullion sovereign to come. Maybe we won’t see a return to the usual St.George and dragon sovereign until 2024? Wether you collect, buy, trade or see the posts here on the forum in passing fleet, we truly are living through history at the moment. You might say or think that it’s the 1902 of today when Edward VII was crowned King on the death of his mother or the moment when George V came to the throne in (1910) with his coronation of 1911 or maybe in 1937 when George VI was crowned. The point is, I could go on, but I don’t want to. The passing of one monarch to the next, however sad on a family level and on personal level is difficult. But, move on we must and not a year ago could we imagine people trading and advising on Charles III coins. That’s how fast time goes. Anyway, here we are, Coronation Day. 6th May 2023. This might just be the one to own. I’m going to say, dare I? Oh go on, watch this space…. We really are living through history at present.
  12. Rare 1889 Melbourne Jubilee Sovereign Marsh Rating: R3 - First Variety. PCGS Grade: AU53. Reduction to £740 plus postage. If any prospective buyers would like to know the PCGS certificate numbers I’d be happy to share privately. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask or message.
  13. @JRR I like that box, where did you get this from if you don’t mind me asking?
  14. By comparison the SOTD Platinum Jubilee sovereigns were delivered within a week of 6th February 2022. I’d be very much questioning a SOTD sovereign if I received it two months later. Hopefully they don’t take that long, unless of course if you lived on the other side of the world. 😆
  15. The 1887 sovereign in this lot is a first variety according to Marsh. I’m not sure if that’s any use to you but just thought I’d say.
  16. Elizabeth II 1967 Gillick Bullion Sovereign A nice 1967 Gillick bullion sovereign, photos are of the actual coin and will come with capsule. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks
  17. Thanks for your insight as ever @westminstrel but who is that man depicted on the sovereign on horseback slaying a dragon. He was last seen in 2021.
  18. Regarding only the reverse, the reins are an obvious point to look at, St. George’s head and body too and also, how fat is the dragon? The slimmer the dragon looks the better the condition of the reverse. Obviously the above is in no particular order.
  19. This is very sad news. My condolences to his family.
