  1. Thanks for sharing this. I’ll have a look. This is my first Jubilee sovereign, I usually stick with young head, Shield reverse Sovereigns and George V branch mint Sovereigns. I think I went big on my first Jubilee sovereign.
  2. I’m waiting for this rare 1889 Melbourne mint Jubilee sovereign to arrive early this week. Graded AU53 by PCGS and rated R3 by Marsh with a relatively small mintage of just 54,652 being the 1st Variety. It is also just one of 15 graded by PCGS.
  3. Not an error or overdate, just another variety. It wouldn’t win any beauty contest but I’m just putting here for reference. The 1889 Melbourne mint jubilee head, 1st variety rated R3 by Marsh (133). Mintage: 54,652. Just 15 graded by PCGS Already graded by PCGS as AU53 so not the best example, due to arrive with me on Tuesday.
  4. We’ve all been there....
  5. Totally off topic but have you ever had a 1917 London mint sovereign or a 1920 Sydney mint sovereign in stock? 😬
  6. I don't know, I'd happily pay £930 for a 1923 SA mint Sovereign. 😬
  7. It’s ok to ask, we all have to start somewhere. Bump just means that the seller wants to ‘bump’ their post higher up the listings. After a day or two if something hasn’t sold it can get lost further down the pages.
  8. What on Earth makes you think the French might kick off at any moment? 😆
  9. It would seem that way with regards to sovereigns. You can see how I’ve spent my Saturday. 😬 I’m sure @sovereignsteve can shed more light on this. The sovereign ‘god’ that he is. 😆
  10. Thanks Steve, I’m sending a few pre 1932 Sovereigns, mostly rare George V sovereigns. Perhaps PCGS would be the better option, do you think? I’m not aware of any ‘middle man’ service with PCGS or is it possible to send directly?
  11. I am much better informed. The one Oscar Wilde quote that springs to mind is “I can resist everything but temptation”. Quite appropriate for most of us when it comes to precious metals. 😬
  12. It seems that these are low mintage for bullion if RM have already stopped selling them.
  13. I’ve just received an email from Royal Mint about a new release. This looks like it could be interesting.
  14. Half sovereigns are a good place to start. You will pay a slightly higher premium that you would over a full sovereign but they are still nice coins.
  15. It’s all entirely dependent on what you like to stack or collect. There are so many possibilities for collections, I only recommended sovereigns as they’re a favourite of mine and can be bought here on the forum usually for a few % above spot price. But there are many other options for gold coins from Britannia’s, Kruggerands, Canadian Maples, Libertad’s. If you do look at Sovereigns I’d highly recommend the book The Gold Sovereign by Michael Marsh. The latest issue has just been released. If you’re looking to buy on the forum I’d highly recommend premium membership. This way you get to see the for sale listings immediately.
  16. Welcome to the forum. If you do decide to venture into gold I can highly recommend Sovereigns. The forum is the best place to buy them.
  17. Thanks ll for your replies and opinions. Now I’m none the wiser which to go with. 😆 I think I’m honestly more swayed to NGC for now. I too have noticed there are more NGC graded coins in U.K. than PCGS. I think that’s what I’ll go with for now and get them sent off. Just lastly, how long does it roughly take from sending coins to receiving them back?
  18. Hi all, I’m sure this has been discussed many times on the forum. I’ve finally decided which of my Sovereigns at EF or thereabouts and some, according to Marsh, rated R and the odd S sovereign that I’d like to grade. Now I don’t know wether to send them to NGC or PCGS. Does anyone have any experience of grading Sovereigns or any coins for that matter with either of these companies, furthermore are there any pros or cons for one over the other? Thanks.
  19. I’m not sure the gold content of a sovereign goes up. 🤔 Maybe it’s worth, value or spot price.
  20. If you pay online through RM website it gives the option wether to display your address on the label. You still have to enter your address so RM know who’s sent it should they have to return it to you but the receiver won’t see your address if you select not to display it.
  21. Yes you are right. I don’t so much see these as a ‘melt’ option. I see them more as a store of wealth that if I sell one day somebody else might melt, granted. But personally I never would melt them.
  22. Welcome to the forum @sellerstacker you’re in good company here.
