People need to remember the forum isnt the market. It’s a very very very small niche part of the market, like 0.0000000000000000000001% - probably a LOT more 0s after the decimal point.
 
People on here want bargains, watch the spot price religiously and act like a £5 drop is the “dip” theyve been waiting for (myself included)
I always have to comment when i see “who will buy at these prices!?”
Dealers just increase their spread.
People, organisations, countries are buying. That’s why it’s going up.
 

Agreed the forum trade activity is severely subdued.
I happen to follow a certain large US auction house from time to time and they seem to have no difficulty selling all sorts of coins like there's no tomorrow. E.g., around Coinex I was attempting to sell here an 1957 MS64 NGC for a reasonable(ish)? GBP430 and received not a single inquiry. On Monday this week someone paid $900 (GBP745) for the same grade in the US (not my coin).

I think one thing that I haven’t seen discussed recently is that in recent years, only five years ago for example, in 2018 the gold price was circa £900 - £1,000 an oz.
Sovereigns were £230 ish.
Half Sovereigns were £110 ish.
Give or take a few pounds.
Yes, that was 2018.
The gold price has slowly risen, dropped slightly, risen again, dropped slightly again. You get the picture. The charts will show it.
The point I’m trying to make is that it’s a new, new price. I see comments on here about ATH prices but it doesn’t really mean anything, because it will usually drop again slightly, before gaining again before dropping. So the new ‘normal’ price is always going up and everyone has to get used to it.
People who are waiting for sub £1,200 or even sub £1,400 have a long wait. I maybe wrong but I don’t think we’re going back there anytime soon.

Look at what the dealers are asking, and work from there 👍

You are right in that ‘spot price’ is what everyone fixates on.
Its no different to shopping in the supermarket, it’s what the buyer perceives to be either a bargain, an acceptable price or being ripped off.
Maybe the supermarket example wasn’t a good one with end of aisle (rip off’s) promotions but you get what I mean.
It all comes down to what you perceive as a ‘good deal’ as a buyer.
I think many on the forum are holding their breath because we don’t know where the gold price will go next.
Only time will tell.
On a side note, speaking of supermarkets, ALWAYS look at the price per grams when shopping. Sometimes you’ve got to buy more to save more.

There is clearly a huge shift happening and it’s happening now.
I can honestly say that having been a member of this forum for five years I’ve never seen a time like this.

i dont think this proof sov will get any additional value anytime soon. It "should" (of course you never know...) be the first of a long (?) series of normal sovereigns.. like the QE fourth design ones...2000-2001-2003-2004 etc etc. 
Low mintage should help but not that much. I ll grab one nonetheless, but only because i'm doing a year run collection and i find less painful to keep buying the current ones as they get released, rather than taking a break and then having to fill holes..
As for the Sotd i would say 100% is a no go.

up to 7500 looks like a fair (finally) amount of full sovereigns, for the market to quickly absorb them and for future sales to keep up their value

Sounds like it will be sold to be a SOTD sovereign. The coronation ones were sold prior to the day.
Probably look identical and you will need to send in with box for NGC to class it as the 75th birthday on the grading.

It's good the Sovereign LEP is lower at 7,500, but there are the additional ones from the 5/4/3-coin sets to be counted as well.

As the title suggests I have a 2023 Coronation Sov PF70 First Releases with the Coronation portrait facing up. There won’t be many with this orientation as NGC mount the St George & the Dragon facing the front.

According to a dealer the 2024 Proof Sovereign will be available on 02/11/2023 and the King's birthday Celebration Sovereign will be available on 06/11/2023 with the following limited editions:   5 Coin Sovereign Set: 450 3 Coin Sovereign Set: 650  Sovereign: 7500 Half Sovereign: 1250 75th Birthday Celebration Sovereign: 750

Also likely a 4-coin set exclusive to the Royal Mint as usual.
