Can't believe I got this nice bit of history from the SS Gairsoppa ship 🚢  That went down in 1941 in Irish waters 💦

Struck down by a German U-boat.

Silver recovered in 2013 from the depth of 15,000 feet...

Yes of course it was a risk but why not bid for a coin worth so much when the seller tells you they bought it from a large UK auction house?

@jacobkenn not being rude but even with excellent pictures some of the best 1917 fakes wouldn't be discovered, they've fooled many a dealer over the years, but I'm sure you know this

He even posted images online of a valuation from bullion by post etc. I'm not fussed as I will get my money back, but it was of course worth a shot!

Would be nice to know who this seller was as ebay do nothing about fakes being sold the thing is you will send this coin back and he will con someone else the coin needs to disposed of not given back but you won't get your money back if you do that i agree about 1917 catching people out even dealers but for me thats enough to put me off buying it especially of ebay. You wasnt being rude it's a open fourum we all entitled to our opinions

A fake 1917, sure it was on eBay but I had bid a large amount in the hope it was real, the seller denies it is fake.

The circles are for the benefit of the seller in the eBay case 😂, could have just circled the whole coin...

Be intrested in seeing ebay picture

Please don't take this as a dig I dont want to make you feel worse

But why would you buy a coin that in the back of your mind you knew it was fake only say this as your comment of hope it's real. EBay purchases always come with risk but it's up to us to limit them

  4. Whoops! 🙂 How did they not pick up on such a big mint error before releasing them?

I dont know for sure the actual figures that got released but does seem alot but after checking the grading web site just to make sure that mine was listed on there about 500 graded by them still dont give me any idea how many out there or how much it could be worth. i do know when first noticed some went for hundreds but missed that boat

Collectors of Britannia silver bullion coins now have a pair of “mules” to consider. Appropriately enough, a Year of the Horse coin is at the center of the error. Approximately 17,000 examples of the 2014 Britannia 1-ounce silver £2 coins were struck with an obverse die intended for the Royal Mint’s inaugural Lunar bullion issue, celebrating the Year of the Horse in 2014. In addition, an estimated 38,000 examples of the Year of the Horse 1-ounce silver £2 coin were struck with an obverse die intended for the Britannia £2 coin.

  7. Today i managed to pick up 5 1oz silver eagles from ebay at £15 each thought this was a good deal
