I have just consulted my crystal balls and have divined that by July, a surprise election result has produced a coalition of Labour, Reform, Plaid Cymru and Hamas. The introduction of a 95% base tax rate has caused everyone to quit their job and sign on the rock and roll with mental health issues. With the resulting collapse of the Pound the government applied to join the Euro, got rejected and made a deal with India to adopt the Rupee in return for exclusive rights to UK borders. This in turn pissed the Irish off to such an extent that they returned to the UK en-masse and started digging up the canals, the railways and whatever other Victorian infrastructure they could lay claim to. Scotland declared independence but nobody noticed as Orkney and Shetland followed suit and applied to join Norway (jury's still out) with oil as an inducement. Food inflation has hit 2000%, the NHS is on fire literally as the sudden influx of nutters caused the staff and patients alike to start chain smoking - it was inevitable that such an oxygen rich environment would lend itself to disaster. The price of Gold has done remarkably well because no will admit to owning any to HM Govt inspectors causing a shortage on paper of biblical proportions and Silver has come into it's own - people discovered that a tube of Britannias in a sock was an effective defence strategy against any n'er-do-wells trying to steal their bean stack. And that concludes this evenings rant.

This Gen thing is BS.
Each year has different challenges than the last. If you think you can draw arbitrary lines and say that everyone between years A and B are the same, you're an idiot. People didn't have it easier in one 'gen' than another. Things just rebalance. If everyone was so much richer, prices would go up to equal it out. Of course they would.
It's an excuse to blame the last lot for your problems, and leave more problems for the next lot.

Given the odds on the lottery, actually buying a ticket doesn't significantly improve your chances of winning.

Arrival of a 1989 double finally completes a perfect 3-coin set. Only took 13 years when I got around to grading a couple and bought the last missing one. Yeah, collecting is a bit demented.

The minimum expectation of the previous generations (anyone currently aged 50 or older) is to retire aged 60-65 with zero mortgage or debts, to be able to spend the rest of their lives on a cruise ship or enjoy foreign holidays. For wealthier professionals and savvy investors or frugal workers, they would also expect enough money to guarantee their children be able to do the same without ever having to work. Those are reasonable expectations for those generations
The aspirations of the current generation are to be able to afford rent and groceries if they work every day until they die at the new retirement age of 75
It's the young people who most desperately need to buy gold, silver and ::cough:: crypto with their spare change, but they are the ones least able to do so. The cost of education, healthcare and housing is extortionate compared to 30 years ago. The cost of everything is on a different planet to when I was a kid.
