As many others, I would have loved the W.Wyon's depiction of St George and the Dragon, with QEII...it would have been an instant buy (unfortunately for my wallet)...Now, I really hope that the Royal Mint will change their "2 coins set" model about the Great Engravers series. If the W. Wyon series was top notch, we have seen that even with the iconic Gothic Crown, this choice is not adequat, we only have to observe the sales of the Petition Crown... This choice is even more discutable in these times with all our questions about a living that we try to preserve in these economic and geopolitics turnmoils and moreover in a context of rising gold prices toward the 3000/4000US $ mark (my bet) in the coming years. I got the 2oz silver set and also ordered the 5oz set Petition Crown. Even if this is a nice set, I don't really see where this series will go, and I decided to cancel the 5oz set and even return my 2oz silver set for a refund. I am already an "happy camper" with the W.Wyon mini series (Una, 3G, GC QA&Portrait), both in silver and gold 2oz and even if I will buy the coming Coronation SOTD, my strategy is to take profit on semi numismatic coins and from now on, buying bullion for easy liquidity (my current purchases aims are Maple Leaf & Britannia, in gold and silver among other coins...)

This will be a BU SOTD Sovereign. All I know is a design "different as the usual run-of-the-mill" Strike on the Day Sovereigns, and the mintage will be low, dixit a dealer
If someone can grab more information...

Would you mind letting us know how many of the 5oz silver are showing? Thank you.
41 5oz sets remaining, and 20 10oz sets

I thought there were now rivets in the capsules because some of the mint staff found it too difficult to work out which way to turn to close the capsules.
Would have been nice to screw the rivet in the middle of the coin in order to see the beautiful edge 😀

Or might be the graders make transparent cases for these
It could be spot on for the 5oz, but not for the 2oz silver (thick holder and no space for a visible edge). Even if it is possible, I am not sure that NGC will change their holders for this release

Sales pace seems slow

No gold for me this time, and the same feeling as others about the risk taken,
moreover at a 50% price steeper than the Una...no way
Got it in 2 oz and 5oz silver. However I am not sure if I'll keep the 5oz silver set or not later...Better to cancel than regret

Yes, that's the whole point of this coin
Grading it will be pointless, except maybe in 2oz gold where the edge are still visible

I don't see the 1oz silver...Did I miss it ?

That 1/40 Oz is tennie tiny like a button.
I really don't understand the motivation of the RM for these ridiculous 1/40th oz coins...A 1/10th would have been more appropriate, and this is not even a matter of metal cost (at least for silver)
-
I have got some information about the reverse proof sets....not so interesting
Fractional silver set . Total mintage 1550, & 350 sold by the RM, the rest sold by their trade department . RRP £165, so a mintage upped from 520 (2 coins silver set) to 2070 for the 1oz silver reverse proof 1oz with this fractional set combined
Fractional gold set . Total mintage 250 and 50 sold by the RM, the rest sold by their trade department RRP £3340 So the RP 1oz gold has a higher mintage than the proof
I'll only buy a silver reverse proof set however

A 2oz gold reverse proof would indeed be a sight to behold. 😍
I agree about the fractional sizes - they’re just too tiny to be bothered with unless the intention is to flip.
Didn't we think the same way about the quarter memorial Sovereign ? These fractional are the first reverse proof coins in the Britannia range ?

I’m not even sure if there was a full oz but there was a 10th 20th and 40th I wasn’t really listening to be honest
1oz, 1/4, 1/20, and 1/40,
With the 1oz included, it seems interesting for a mintage of 50...even for the silver set with a mintage of 350 for the fractional. The silver RP 1oz is a little bit diluted with the 2 coins set

Did anyone else get a call from there account manager offering a reverse proof gold set mintage of 50
I was in the car when she called and wasn’t interested it was £3400 if I remember correctly she said it’s not on the website there was also some silver set that was also not available on the Royal mint website only for people who got the call. I asked if she could send me some photos but she said it wasn’t allowed.
I also got the offer from my AM in silver (350) and gold (50 fractional reverse proof set. Not reasonable decision, I decided to pass on the gold sets (only got the 2 coins silver set- PF and RP) but I am tempted about these RP sets

But yours is die flaw, not a strike error. If it get slabbed do you think NGC will mention the flaw?
This is not my coin, but looking at the photos, there is no die flaw imho, only an incorrectly prepared die . But I am not a NGC specialist
If there was a die flaw/crack, strike error, I guess it would be mentioned by NGC
-
Thank you @Paul, A little bit disappointed and I am not quite sure if I will be in the party for this one, especially since it is again a 2 coins set so a big investment, probably £11k in these trouble times ahead... I still have some time to think about it. It will be a 2oz silver set anyway

The way I see it production flaw is still a flaw, like die crack and weak strike even if it get slabbed and graded PF70. Perhaps they could add comments to a production flaw but if not that is a limitation to their grading system.
I don't think this defect could be considered as a die crack here (maybe an incorrectly prepared die) However, I think that a production flaw such as die crack, or any strike error is mentioned by NGC (and adds value).

I'm still not sure what to do with my 5-coin memorial set...
The quintuple and double sovereign are perfectly fine, but the full sovereign has a noticeable chunk of frosting missing and the half has a tiny scratch on the obverse.
However, the quarter sovereign has a strike through error, which truth be told is kind of interesting to me - more interesting than a perfect quarter sovereign. But Royal Mint are standing firm that I have to return the entire set if I want the full and half to be replaced.
Is such an error on a one-off-design proof sovereign particularly worthwhile in terms of collectability? Or would I be better off losing it and getting the whole set replaced in order to resolve the quality issues on the full and half sovs?
I guess the other question is, would this defect even grade as an error when it's that small? (I mean, it seems quite noticeable to me, but the coin itself is pretty tiny in the first place!) Here's a picture I posted previously:
If the 5 and double are fine, and the quarter is "special", I would definitely keep the set and try to get a full and a half on the second market if I want a perfect set. You could also try to exchange with someone else who has a bad set but a good full and half, and want to return it to the RM
Anyway, you could be surprised to get a PF70 for your full sovereign if the defect is considered as a production flaw

For information, for @Paul and all the lucky owners , a 2oz gold and a 2oz silver Una were auctionned today at Sovereign Rarities. Both graded PF69 and sold respectively for £26000 and £1700 (+ 20% fees + VAT). The Una's market still holds up well and this is the great winner in the series and even in all the modern coins contestants !
If the prices are nice, It's worth mentionning the differences between a PF69 and PF70 with an amazing 67% premium added for the last gold Una PF70 auctionned in January (66000$, around £55000 fees included)
On the other side, I don't understand why the 3G and GC do not really take off seing the sold price of the last auction for an original 3G above,

You need to use my services @Frenchie I receive coins for over seas customers for me to check it saves a lot of time if you get a dog of a coin. I can also do direct NGC submissions if you want them direct to grade.
Thank you Dave, I am thinking about your services for conservation and grading. I'll PM you

Absolutely stunning Paul, for my part, I have received a good four coins set, but an awful 5 coins set with 4 coins out of 5 in a bad condition...and returned to the RM of course. I just hope to get a replacement, (and a good replacement) but it seems to be a lotery !
Have you ordered the £5 BU ? I have mixed feelings with this one. The busy design is beautiful with the contrast of the fields in PF finish , but I am not sure with the matte finish...

I have ordered the coming 3oz Constitution, it seems to me that the fineness of the design is greatly improved. It reminds me the beauty of the 2oz Cook Islands " The Great Tea Race"
