Fantods got a reaction from Earthmetal in A single bullion half sovereign
Hi all, I spent up some time ago so have been away. I am now ready to buy another half sovereign. I don't want to use the dealers, as I'd prefer to see what I'm buying, and the couple of times I've used them I was slightly underwhelmed with what was sent.
I appreciate there may already be listings out there selling half sovereigns, but I'm not a premium member, so I won't be able to see most of them until it's too late. Therefore, if anyone has one, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

    I agree Paul wholeheartedly.
When you realise everything you thought was true is a lie, at least this is the conclusion I came to sometime ago.
Although the past four years have been a huge eye opener even for me.
Central bank digital currencies (programmable) and we are screwed.

    speaking from experience
When you get old you’ll appreciate the bigger coins
easier to see the detail of the designs and find  them
that is of course if you can remember where you put them in the first place

I thought about this a for a few minutes and as there is no other thread about this.  Why not see where this one goes
List links to coins that are found online like ebay that have bids that one can not understand. I am not talking about scam listing, It is about genuine listings that seems to attract bids that seems high for such a coin. eg below.

If you regularly sell on ebay one thing you (sadly and quite often annoyingly) come to realize is that very few people actually read an items description. Quite often someone will see the title, look at the first picture and base their bid/purchase on that alone. Whilst the title of this one does clearly give a weight indicating it is a half sov one other thing I've noticed in the coin world is that quite often people rush to buy things without knowing anything about it. I suspect there is a combination of those two things at play with this auction.
The above being said though this is very much a thing on ebay which I'd mostly chalk up to some form of auction fever. You'll see the same behaviour if you attend an auction in person. I was at one back in November and watched as one lot after the other went for well over what you could buy the items for from the shops around that sold them. Factoring in auction fees people paid as much as double for some of the goods and it wsan't because it was a charity auction. Its not something I'll ever understand.

Before my silver membership and my fiat runs out, I am after a single bullion half sovereign. Pre-2000 preferred, and if possible £200 posted (bit cheeky but worth an ask).
    Thanks

i wonder how many people see what i see.
This feels like a BBC production. They just have to get the racial, gender and 'climate change', fiat Ponzi scheme spins on things.
No mention that in the section about Ghana that 'The economy of the Ashanti Empire was mainly based on the trade of gold and agricultural exports as well as slave trading, craft work and trade with markets further north.' - this is in Wikipaedia and they still point out it was a slave empire.

When we get to South Africa is concentrates on Apartheid rather than gold. It claims the condition were terrible. The workers were like slaves. You worked 5 says a week? (he knows the answer) - no 6 days a week. It doesn't mention that conditions would be comparable to just about every other mine in the world at that time.
The modern mine is a robot mine - so now Blacks are unemployeed i suppose since the White devils were got rid of. No mention the lot of Blacks has got a lot worse since those days. The violence, murders and rapes are off the scale. A very prosporus country is becoming a basket case - just like the former Rhodesia.
We had to show a Black 'woman miner' - of course the film had to push the 'gender' thing. Sadly there were no gay or trans miners to interview - they'd probably be killed in South Africa these days. The woman says mining was predominantly men in previous years - well yeah of course, it is dirty hard dangerous work - like mining is. You can't expect women to do dirty, hard and dangerous work well can you.
Then we have the climate spin - the coal fired power stations - 'always breaking down' - i very much doubt that. I mean China is building several coal fired power stations a week - just the sort of thing they'd do if they were always breaking down. My grandfather worked in a coal fired power station and funnily enough he never mentioned it always breaking down. That is simply a climate cult lie. Essential for any good documentary these days.
Solar panels - the solution. Yeah, well we know that is a lie. Green energy is not green and it is no renewable.
Gold is saving lives - a gold mine is going to save the world from malaria along with Dr Bill Gates i suppose. Handy way to get COVID, you know the testdemic mentioned and the other Tony Faunci scam, HIV.
The joke of it - talking to the woman Chief Cashier at the BoE about her signature on the bank promissory note - promising to pay the bearer. No mention that's a lie. No mention the BoE has stolen Venezuelan gold. No mention of Brown's bottom. No mention of the role of the BoE is gold manipulation.
Excepting the French Canadian chap at the beginning i didn't see a single living White man. Was that just happenchance? No this is a Woke anti-White man propaganda piece - hence it felt like a typical BBC production.

BBC is worse than lying. They just scream at youu telling what a horrible racist xenophobic whatever whatever worthless pariah you are and then beg you for your liscence fees so that they may continue vilifying this country and her people.
I'd rather hear some polite lies than their repungent hysteria. Most information is a combination of objective fact and some degree of deception, if not all information, and I respect that. But the BBC and other supposedly "educated" MSM are full of subjective emotion, and even deception seems too good a quality for today's journalism.
And people listen to these (once lies but good ones) rants for their otherwise non-existent self affirmation. Appealing to authority, you see. And in this postmodern context even authority is arbitrary. Social status is defined by adherence to a particular set of ideas not *actual* status as appropriate by birthright, by wealth, or by prefession. This is also why the words of some random Hollywood stars or even some 3rd rate YT/IG influencers are held gospel. And while I don't see myself particularly religious, I can see why religions are such important aspect of our society. Not because what a preacher tells you is necessarily true, but that people will believe in something, and in a society where people don't believe God(s), they fill their minds with ideologies and causes, only to be far more credulous than the most religious zealots.

Exactly. It's a gift from God and He don't pay no dues.
In my opinion, it's not a good idea to leave your metals to your kids. You probably ask, why Roy?
    Or as Nugget once bleated:
'You feel it is okay to belittle efforts I am making to ensure my children don't have the start to life that we did?  I find it offensive and rude.'
    😭
Where do I begin? Let's say you have a life expectancy of 80-85. Your kids will be around 60 when you pass and probably wealthier than you ever were. They have their health, you paid for it.
You needed that money, perhaps you might have seen 90 if you'd spent it on yourself.
When you die, your kids are not kids anymore. Seriously.
People say, 'I want to give them a better life than I had...what the f?'
If they haven't had a better life than you had, then you've failed already.

I believe that, as a parent, there are only a few duties that are required of that position:
    Shelter
    Food
    Warmth
    Clean clothing
    Safety
    Love
    Education

I'd say these are your dues, your parental requisites, and nothing more. There is too much hand-holding and too many 'participation' awards these days. We should value excellence and encourage improvement.
If you haven't made a difference, an impact, in your child's life by the time you die, then I am sorry about that. You can't buy it now, it's too late.
