SilverGrade reacted to ChrisSilver in NEW Photography Section
TSF has many members who are great photographers, both professional and amateur hobbyist and many members would like to learn how to take better photos of their coins and bars and to know what products and equipment they need for the best at home photos.

It has been requested for a specific Photography section, and this has been an intended addition for quite some time. We are pleased to finally announce that we have a new Precious Metals Photography section for members to post Photography Guides, Tips, Discussions & Questions, as well as a place to post photography product/equipment reviews.

For now and for ease of use we have put the Photography Guides, Tips, Photography Product Reviews, Discussions & Questions into a single section. Photos can be shared in the pre-existing Photos Only Topics section, which is now found within the new Precious Metals Photography section.

The NEW Photography Guides, Tips, Discussions & Questions subsection can be viewed by everyone, only Premium Members can post new topics and reply to topics in this section. When creating a topic in this section you will need to use one of the following prefixes:
    - Quick Tip
    - Guide / Tutorial
    - Photography Equipment Review (for reviews of photography products, equipment and related photography items etc)
    - Question
    - Discussion

The existing Photos Only Topic has the same user permissions settings as before.

You can see the new section here:
    https://www.thesilverforum.com/forum/150-precious-metals-photography/

Many thanks to the members who post informative guides and tips and who help others with their photography related questions.

Please report any photography topics that need to be moved to the new section so that we can move them over

SilverGrade reacted to ChrisSilver in Why would TSF ban an account?
    This is a general statement.

Why would TSF ban or close an account?
To protect you, or to protect the TSF community which also means you! Either they are a problem member, or we believe that there is higher than normal risk in allowing an account to operate on TSF. Such reasons could include but are not limited to; past trading history on TSF, missing items from sent parcels or incorrect items sent, or what we believe to be suspicious behaviour.

Though I would like to be completely transparent I am limited (legally) on what information I can publicly share about an account and also sometimes it is also best to not post anything or everything that we are aware of if the priority is to first get the seller to finish all open orders, as we wish for members to get the items they have paid for.
Please be aware of scams in the precious metals industry, such a scam could involve selling silver at an incredibly low cost compared to other sellers in order to generate a list of buyers/victims, the seller could sell at break even or even small losses therefore undercutting every legitimate dealer until eventually scamming a large group of people out of a lot of money at the same time by 'pulling the rug' on them. Be careful when pre-paying for precious metals that the seller doesn’t have in hand.

Is a seller in the UK (where VAT should be added) selling silver at a lower price than the major dealers in Europe sell without VAT? If so, please think carefully and do your research into this seller/company before risking your capital. It is very unlikely that a smaller seller (especially one who is asking for pre-payment as they do not have the working capital) will be able to compete on price with major dealers. Major dealers have good price breaks as they are buying such large quantities direct from mints, nearly all major dealers will also have contracts in place for credit from the mints for bullion.

Please also note this topic about risk of trading on the forum; especially with new accounts. This topic is also linked to in the QuickStart guide, which should be read before trading on the forum and is found in each applicable trading section, in the auto welcome message and also linked below.

    UK QuickStart Guide
    EU QuickStart Guide
    USA & Canada QuickStart Guide
TSF charges no commissions on sales and our main source of revenue comes from paid accounts; Premium Memberships and Business Accounts. As such we have no vested interest in removing accounts for the sake of it and we would like as many sellers as possible. More sellers are beneficial for all forum members as ultimately it grows the forum which in turn also brings more buyers as well as more sellers, and more items listed for sale on TSF. Sellers with legitimate low cost bullion are beneficial to have on the forum.
It wouldn’t make sense to close an account paying for a Business Account or Premium Membership to the forum per month if we believed there was no risk at all for members to keep an account open.
The other side of that we can’t just ban accounts without enough evidence that we believe warrants a ban, or because some members wish for an account to be banned. We must remain unbiased. As many longer standing members will know, we have also banned several accounts in the past which were paid members and if someone is paying or not paying has no impact on our decision to ban an account which is ultimately to protect members or the TSF community. Sometimes an account doesn’t warrant being banned yet, yet it’s still on our watch list should any further suspicious activity arise.
Though I may seek the advise and guidance of others, ultimately I have to decide what I believe is in the best interests of TSF and ultimately of all of our members. There will no doubt be some that disagree and some that agree with each action taken, that is inevitable. However, there is no benefit for members to discuss TSF itself or our decisions and it just brings divide amongst our members who should remain as one and look out for each other. This is why we have this rule in place:

This is to avoid any unnecessary divide between members or between members and TSF. The forum works better when we all work together. And ultimately I hope that you trust me to grow and manage the forum as best that I can in the interests of the whole community. Which we have successfully done since 2014.
Also, please note that not every member may post publicly about their bad experiences of an account now banned, and TSF may be aware of other information also told to us in confidence.
We strongly advise not to trade with banned accounts off of the forum, in the interest of protecting yourself. There are lots of well established sellers on the forum to buy and sell with.

🎁 Now to some fun: There will be an upcoming free prize draw soon to promote the forum and to celebrate our 9th birthday of TSF. Look out for this coming soon! 🎁

Some of these will have been wanted listings, but the vast majority of topics listed with items for sale contained multiple items for sale, or extensive lists of items listed for sale. Therefore the amount of items that traded hands on TSF is extensive.

Last year's predictions from Saxo didn't work out all that well.
A summary of this year's predictions is:
    1. A fund set up by billionaires will create a trillion dollar project to develop new technologies for energy production.
    2. President Macron will resign.
    3. Gold will rise to $3000 per ounce and GDX will quadruple.
    4. The EU will create its own unified armed forces.
    5. A country will ban all meat production by 2030.
    6. The UK will hold a referendum to reverse Brexit.
    7. Price controls will be introduced to curb inflation.
    8. OPEC+, China and India will withdraw from the IMF and create their own international trading currency and reserve asset.
    9. Japan will fix the USD/JPY exchange rate at 200 while it overhauls its financial system.
    10. OECD countries will clamp down on tax havens.

SilverGrade reacted to ChrisSilver in Please respect the forum's rules and your fellow member's trade topics
Firstly I have to point out that the vast majority of members are respectful to one another and respect other member's trade topic. So thank you to all of these members.

TSF has a policy against unsolicited comments in other members trade topics. Recently there has been a growing number of posts, and childish behaviour that has been slipping over from the non PM section into genuine trade topics of other member's, and completely derailing their sales topics and turning them into a joke. TSF is all up for members having a laugh and some banter and joking around, and it is why we specifically have a non PM section of the forum as well as this topic here, so members do have a section where they are allowed to discuss (nearly) anything and to joke around in. But member's trade topics where your fellow members are trying to trade in, is not the place.

Please remember that TSF is a business, with many professional dealers and industry representatives on as well as many serious collectors and investors. We are trying to grow the trade section for everyone. We would be grateful if you could please respect other forum members and our rule about unsolicited comments and treat the forum's trade section with seriousness as it is a place of trade.

In general I try not to interfere and like I said am all up for members having fun and a joke about (in the correct non PM section of the forum) but I have even had continual reports from a few long standing members who are not happy that the trade section is receiving a rise in such unsolicited comments and behaviour, which has resulted in several sellers sometimes withdrawing their items from sale. Again please try to contain yourself within the non PM section.

Unsolicited comments (such as pages and pages of members joking around in one trade topic) also unfairly bump such topics up, hiding other members trade topics as well as completely derailing and destroying the trade topic of the member who is just trying to sell their item(s). It is also very off-putting to new members, we wish to encourage new members and for TSF to grow.

Please see the forum's rule on unsolicited comments here:
Sellers who receive unsolicited comments in their trade topics, please report for moderator review. Trade topics may also be put into moderator approval queue, and/or warning points issued to accounts as the moderators see appropriate in order to uphold the forum's trade section.

SilverGrade reacted to dangelo in Coin watches & ingot watches
Starting this thread to see what cool coin and bullion watches are out there.
I think coin watches look great and would buy a 1oz gold one or even a silver crown watch or something.
I got my first gold ingot watch years ago on a business class onboard shop for a bargain price.  And a second one recently in an auction also for a bargain.  The ingots are drilled so would be under 1g if you ever extracted them, but I still like the concept
Here are two gold ingot watches to start.  Love to see what you have - share in the comments?
