This is exactly what people said of the 1989 sovereign at its release.
Now look at how well it is doing.
The Platinum Jubilee proof sovereign of most denominations didn’t immediately sell out in November 2021. It took a few days.
I agree with your statement that the late Queen was special. But so is this new release of Charles III sovereigns.
    Why?
He was Britain’s longest Prince of Wales.
He’s also Britain’s oldest ‘ever’ monarch, by age, to be crowned.
He also started The Princes Trust which has done great things.
He’s also a great advocate against climate change.
He sadly won’t likely see any significant Jubilees which means, no special releases. As we have seen many of as of late.
Charles III’s reign may be seen as Edward VII’s reign.
In the coming years, we’ll go back to the usual, standard George and Dragon reverse with an uncrowned King sovereign.
You’re skipping an opportunity to own a piece of history because of personal opinion.
Now, remind me again, how are 1902 Edward VII Matt proof sovereigns doing?

This thread has really taken some wild turns over the last week.  It started with who is in, who likes the coin, what set, how many, etc.  The folks looking for a quick profit jumped in with debates on prices, mintage, the search for only 70’s, and complaints on RM service and quality.  Finally politics reared it’s ugliness with debates on KC III.
Let’s all take a deep breath and realize what we are talking about - a coin.  That’s all.  If you like it, jump in.  If you don’t or you don’t agree with the government, the prices, mintage, package, mintage limit ….don’t buy the coin or deal with the RM.
I’m a collector who loves his collection - some are perfect, some have flaws, but in the end I bought them because I liked them.  It’s a chance to travel back in time and hold something that was part of someone’s life - maybe they carried it in a war, or on their wedding day.  Some are worth a bunch, some just look good to me.

It’s a hobby (definitely an expensive one) but not my retirement plan and not worth raising my blood pressure over.  Happy hunting for your treasures.

Don't forget that on the Charles III coronation coins, he is wearing a crown.  That is rare in and of itself.  That certainly induced me to buy the silver coins plus 3 Sovereigns (SOTD, full, and piedfort).

I will be first in line (queue) to buy a SOTD for Anne Jessopp's birthday!
Oh, what the heck.....I'll also buy one for the head of quality control's birthday!

I will be watching - but I don't think there will be as much fun as usual.  The relatively high mintages (certainly for the sovereign) will probably mean that quite a few people will not be rushing to buy.  I'm more than happy with my SOTD and the quarter ounce and 1/40 oz Coronation coins I bought.  I will probably buy a bullion sovereign and half sovereign later in the year.
I would not say it is lack of love for these coins that is the problem, I think the real problem is the RM are releasing so many coins, so frequently, that they are flooding the market.

Just ordered my proof full and piedfort Sovereigns.  With the SOTD, that's more than enough for me.  On to the next wallet-cleaning coin!

The SOTD case is an embarrassment! For a coin so important, historical, and expensive, this is just terrible.  The regular proof Sovereign comes in a very nice wood case.  Why doesn’t the SOTD come in a similar case, perhaps a darker wood to differentiate it?
On a side note, the coin was packed so tightly in the case that it was almost impossible to get out.  Plus, there was a tiny piece of plastic in the coin holder.  Had to open it and blow it out.  WTF??

For those of you lucky enough to get a bar or two, you will enjoy them.   BYB does a great job making and packing them, and each bar comes in a little velvet sack with a COA card.  All of his bars are hallmarked, so you know it's as good as good can get.  If you miss out on this release, just wait for the next one, or you can order a bar or round from his website.  You can also have him custom create a bar.

    Yes, that is correct.
Based on the Royal proclamation published 17th March 2023, the 2023 King Charles III Sovereigns will be the first of the new king's reign to feature the classic Benedetto Pistrucci designed St George & Dragon reverse.  This obviously included the SOTD Sovereign.

I consider myself one of the luckiest men on Earth because I am cherishing my 1/40 oz. gold KCIII coronation coin.  And just as soon as I visit my optometrist for new magnifying glasses, I'll be able to see and enjoy it!
