I personally have nothing against Atkinsons, although as I said above I have not yet used them as a supplier, but have used Chards on several occasions.
In further support of Chards I would add that it's not every dealer who goes around giving away very expensive free goodies to it's customers in the form of proof (x2) and bullion sovereigns (x1) as Chards did last year with their Christmas Mystery Box promotion, and I doubt that there are many other dealers out there who could beat them on that.

It's slightly disappointing to hear your slightly negative thoughts about me / us.
Sure we do except as a business to make money (not literally), and be able to generate and retain sufficient profit to grow and ensure we are financially stable. This has the benefit for past present and future customers to know that we are not going to disappear overnight.
I have mentioned it before, but sometimes the very cheapest suppliers are not financially stable, and could go bust or do a runner owing money. The prime example I quote is Harvey Michael Ross of Leeds, who for years was the most competitively priced UK bullion dealer, and also the darling of the financial press whenever they commented about sourcing gold sovereigns or Krugerrands.
    This thread contains some information:
Basically Harvey Ross was running a Ponzi type scheme, and ended up disappearing to Brazil, owning £ millions to investors and customers.
If I were purely motivated by money, I could have made about 10x more than I have in about 1/10th of the time, without doing anything illegal, just by being less transparent, ethical, and scrupulously accurate with descriptions.

Grid seems to show more definition and to my eye seems more appealing than softbox but I could understand some thinking it might look a bit artificially highlighted or enhanced.

I recently posted an outtake on a gold coin, but this shows good photos of an ASE American Silver Eagle, compared with much better photos of the same coin using different lighting technique:

    Teams chat:
I prefer grid. Which do you like? If you prefer softbox then give the reverse a lick of dehaze just on the left (do you see how it's more blown on left? (Camera raw and press "k" to enter adjustment brush and make sure only setting changed is dehaze). But grid is much more eye catching IMHO   Some difference, heh?

Yep, that was me.  I was in for a double sov from a well known dealer and was watching and watching, willing it to go just that wee bit lower....   I watched and willed for too long.
Better luck next time I suppose..

I wonder who was a gnats testicle away from buying gold today when it was at it’s low…only to see it bump back up nearly £30 an ounce…sooooo close!

I've tried it every which way over the years and often change a listing after some time has passed either to bin the postage or to maybe drop the price below that of competitors and add a bit of postage on. It's all psy-ops and sometimes a strategy will work once, twice or several times, or not at all. As you say it all depends, but generally speaking if there are multiple items all the same, the cheapest will go first every time.

Depends what you are selling. Up until recently I have done very well with my items plus postage, however, usually similar but rarely same also available.

You cannot add the cost of postage to the item if you want to sell it because if you do your item will come in at an overall higher price than similar items being listed by other sellers who are willing to sell for less, and yours will therefore not sell, at least not before the other competing items are completely all gone which is usually never.  If you want to sell and offer free postage to buyers the only way to do it is to take a financial hit.

It often seems to me the bigger a company gets the more corrupt and greedy they become. Ebay is a prime example of this and while I can only speak for myself I can confirm that I haven't created any new listings on ebay for several months and do not intend to.  I still have some live listings which hardly get any views and I'll leave them till they sell, if ever,  but that'll be it for me.
Given that with all things in general you can never really move backwards towards what many might consider to be a better time and a better overall situation it is unlikely that I will go back to them, so consider them bitten! (from this one very small person at least)
