Why would they even add a buyer’s premium?

I have limited knowledge and experience of auctions, but my understanding was always that a buyer’s premium is added because 100% of it goes to the auction house, while the consignor of the auctioned item gets the hammer price.

Since in this case the consignor and auction house are both The Royal Mint (I assume), I don’t understand the need for the buyer’s premium.

It's probably so the royal mint can rip people off some more

It's all about where you hide it I guess. Anyway, the pro burglars will be on the lookout for fancy biscuit tins instead 😉

You can get some RUBs in solid, opaque colours, but not the 2.5L ones. I use some of the solid blue 4L and 18L boxes for things that don't like sunlight.

It is a very nice looking box might see if one would fit in the safe

Like many people in the UK, I'm a big fan of the Really Useful Box brand of storage boxes as they are pretty durable, stack well, and they come in almost any size you could need ranging from 0.07L to 145L. I get most of mine from Hobbycraft, Staples or Ryman depending which is cheapest.

Anyway, one of the less common sizes is this 2.5 litre box which I had been using to store some special LEGO until I realised today that the 3-row tray insert it came with was just perfect for storing assorted sizes of 1oz and 2oz coins in capsules. The 2.5L box also has the same lid dimensions as the 5L, 5L XL, and 8L open fronted boxes (34x20cm), so it will also stack with those if you want to use the same system for storing chunky bars and so on. I haven't tried it yet, but I think you can nest two of these tray inserts in the 5L box; however, I think they would be hard to remove when full!

I'll put some photos below to demonstrate. I've put an empty Quadrum capsule in there just to show that they fit too (perfectly, in fact). The round capsules contain various coins with the largest coin diameter being 41mm. There are also some 2oz beasts in there, a small stack of 1oz bars, and a bunch of bagged coins I haven't sorted out yet. I estimate you could fit about 100-120 round 1oz capsules in there if you maxed it out, and this sort of box should be fine holding that kind of weight. One of the things I like most about these boxes is that you can easily see what's in them without having to open anything - but that could also be a bad thing :D

What do you think of this storage solution?

Easy for a burglar to nick as well, I keep mine in a safe although that may fit in my safe

    Hi All

A non-TSF friend was apparently offered a number of Krugs for cash....swap in a carpark in London....Brixton to be precise.

How many of you would take that?   Not me!

    Best

    Dicker

Brixton can be a Dodge place, don't think I'd be taking alot of cash there. Seen people get mugged in day light in the high street

  5. The world is definitely changing and over the next 10 years could change more than it has for a very long time. The economy won't be the same and the dollar could crash especially with the amount of money America are printing. All this could drive the prices of PM right up. No one really knows what will happen even mystic meg but we can all live in hope for the highest prices ever.

  6. So I've read a few times that gold could reach prices of up to £5k in the future. I take that with a pinch of salt but if this was to happen would it be hard to sell the gold you have. Surely no one would want to buy it at those prices or do you think dealers would still buy it. Everyone would want to cash in which also could make it hard to sell.

Just wondered what peoples opinions on this was if by some miracle it did happen

BBP are good. But often the most expensive of the mainstream dealers.

If you want 1/4oz of gold I would just have a look around and see what you can get for the best premium rather than trying to speculate on a QB that you may or may not get the premium back on later down the line. IMO!

I completely agree with what you said, ive had a look around and to be honest the QB aren't that much more and I think will always hold more of a premium than say a Britannia

Was looking at buying the 1/4 Oz queen's beast horse of Hanover

I know you can still get it from the royal mint but I wouldn't give them a piece of my poo let alone my money

Check their sister site first! Gold.co.uk. They are same company, same staff but often cheaper listings.

Thanks for that, just looked up the coin I was going to buy and it's nearly £40 cheaper on there other site
