Bluegeo reacted to Leonmarsh in 1815 20 Francs London Rare selling Cheap
1815 20 French Francs gold coin. It features the uniformed bust of Louis XVIII and the reverse has a wreath and coat of arms. The year and mint mark are below the wreath, whilst the value is above the wreath to the right. The text on the obverse reads "LOUIS XVIII, ROI DE FRANCE" and on the reverse it reads "PIECE DE 20 FRANCS". The "R" mint mark indicates that the coin was minted at the Royal Mint in London. This was done at the request of Louis XVIII, the king of France, who had been forced to flee his homeland after Napoleon returned from exile. King Louis returned to France after Napoleon's defeat at the Battle of Waterloo in June of 1815 and the Royal Mint ceased production of these coins later that same year.

Bluegeo reacted to SilverAngel in 30g The Silver Forum Rounds 2023 - Official Release - Ballot entry now closed
Please note, the ballot entry is now closed and names have been randomly selected. You will be contacted this week if your name has been picked. Thank you everyone your support has been amazing.
Hello Folks,
We are very proud to launch our first official TSF round in conjunction with @ChrisSilver and would like to extend our thanks to him for asking us to do this.
There were 50 of these rounds available and the first 25 have been advertised and sold within the Platinum Lounge to all Platinum Plus and Premium members first. The remaining 25 will be sold via a ballot as we anticipate demand to exceed the amount available. If you want to secure a round the only way to get one is to comment on this thread or to private message me to get your name on the waiting list if you want a chance to own one. If you are a Platinum Plus, Platinum Premium member Business Platinum as well as Official Sponsors and Moderators and want one, please message me as there are still a couple left in the allocation. If unsold these will go into the ballot. ***Please note this Platinum allocation has now all sold***
Deadline to Secure a TSF round
We will keep this thread open for two weeks and the closing day will be 12 o'clock midday Monday 30th October. We will then contact people over the following few days to collect payment and distribute the rounds.
Why buy one?
The Silver Forum will receive some of the proceeds of these rounds and this is a great way of supporting the wonderful community we have here, and sales of the round help with the costs of keeping the Forum up and running for us all. These pieces are all hand poured and lasered by us. Each one will be a minimum of 30g though many may be slightly more as we overpour by a couple of grams to allow for sanding and polishing to achieve the beautiful mirror finish. Each round will be in a square coin capsule and presented in one of our gift boxes and will have a Silver Angel Certificate of Authenticity. If we are asked again by Chris to produce rounds again for next year we will of course offer the same numbers to each member. Any support you can give us with a purchase will be appreciated.
Hallmarking
As with every piece of Silver Angel hand poured silver it has been tested for purity and hallmarked by the Edinburgh Assay Office. This is your guarantee of fineness and that it is indeed .999 fine silver and made by us.

So, from this story, the bank accepted at beginning these coins to settle the debts. They refused him only after they realised that it was a fraud scheme to repeatedly get cash back from them.😊

I have a story I am inclined to believe from someone I work with, for the purpose of this story my colleagues friend will be called MR X (disclaimer this story is a few years old)
So. Once upon a time there was a man called MR X who spent his time scooping up legal tender coins on eBay and the like at below face value, by all accounts over a period of some time MR X had amassed quite a hoard of these coins. MR X banked with Barclays and had a Barclay Card. Every month MR X would go into his local branch of Barclays and attempt to settle his credit card account with legal tender coins such as listed here. Every month the Bank teller resisted MR Xs attempt to settle his debt with said legal tender coins. Every month X insisted on seeing the "Manager" and every month MR Xs account was settled.
The End

Edit: Risk free trial!
"I totally understand the reluctance in buying a £850 bunch of coins without knowing if it will work or not to settle bank debts. If I would have a credit card or a bank overdraft, I would tried to use myself.
If an established member with good trading history would like to give a try to pay his debts to a bank, I can send the coins and wait up to 14 days for payment or return, depending if the experiment will have positive or negative result.
This will be beneficial for all of us, to know for future and to understand better the concept of legal tender coins.
Don't be shy, have a try!🤗"
Good afternoon, dear friends!
I have today for sale or exchange a bundle of £1000 face value british silver coins, CGT free and legal tender, untouched by human hand and sealed in original Royal Mint packages. There are two denominations: 3 x £100 (2oz .999 silver) and 35 x £20 (1/2oz .999 silver), various years and reverses types. Some of these coins started developing around rims a lovely natural toning/patina, this is an inevitable process, so nothing to blame.
These commemorative coins can be used to settle debts. It means that if you offer to fully pay off a debt to someone in legal tender, they can’t sue you for failing to repay. The Court will accept these coins. Probably Councils as well, but I don't know exactly how. See https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/explainers/what-is-legal-tender.
Also, there are some nice true stories about people who successfully paid for fuel using this type of coins, of course after challenging moments with cashiers, police and court. I do not recommend, but definitely it is a nice entertainment for bored good citizens who know their rights.😊
See https://www.chards.co.uk/guides/can-i-spend-commemorative-coins-in-shops/476#:~:text=Because Tesco allowed a debt to be incurred,to settle the debt using legal tender currency..
My asking price is 85% from their face value, so £850, posted SD fully insured.
The buyer will receive all the described and pictured £1000 coins plus another one £20 silver coin, opened from the original package, as a nice bonus.
Alternatively, I will accept an exchange for 45g of hallmarked 9ct gold. If a swap will be agreed, both sides will pay for special delivery fully insured.
The parcel will be shipped in maximum 3 working , after payment, depending of my rota.
Thank you for reading!🤗
Kindest regards,
Stefan.
