Faiz got a reaction from ZRPMs in Exit strategies?
I think there is an element of the "grass being greener on the other side". For those not in PMs, see silver as a gateway. This is how I saw it anyway. Once in Silver, the sights are firmly set on Gold. Human nature. I agree with @James32, one monster box of silver is enough. There is a very good chance of silver seeing its ATH (~30 squid spot) in the next year or two. Of course, physical being a lot higher. I can't see spot going to triple digits though. Saying that, it all depends on whether we see a new monitory system in the coming year or two. If so, then there could be a real flight to commodities and silver spot could end up seeing prices north of 50 squid. As for exit strategy, not sure of that yet. Although, I have sold on Ebay before. Not had any issues thankfully, but not ideal either. Like @James32, my aim is to trade/sell/transition from silver into gold.

No defined exit strategy other than to pass on as much as possible to my children when I no longer want/need the safety net that gold provides. My strategy will be far more about keeping them informed on their best next steps once I move it on to them (a couple of decent contacts that will help them and their best interests - something akin to the BYB service offered, that would allow them to get the best return for a small fee without feeling obliged to shift it all to a dealer etc)
The above plan aside, intentionally sticking to sovereigns and quarter oz coins in the main, so that if gold does steadily increase over time, they remain highly liquid and ‘affordable’ to a wider audience than maybe their 1oz cousins that could be at 2/2.5k each in years to come. This way I can offload a few at a time as and when needed in later life
I must say though, in my relatively short time collecting PM’s I feel incredibly fortunate to be having these types of discussions. Talk of an exit strategy simply means we’re in a very privileged (not in a bad/negative way) position to hold wealth in gold etc in the first place 👍🏼

Completely understand, all roads appear to lead to gold.
I had zero gold last December, so I traded/sold/transitioned from 1250+oz of silver, down to around 450ozs and put that money into gold.
I'm back at over 750ozs of silver so there's an obvious flaw in my plan 😆 I will always keep around 500ozs of silver though "why?" I genuinely believe it will at least double within the next 5 years.
Gold is now my focus, but silver got me here cheaply ( relatively speaking of course)

I just throw my coins with milk spots into a scrap bullion box for future sale.  The eraser just dulls the finish, and the coin is still in rough shape.  Save the time and either sell it or save for future sale when the price goes up.  I've run into many spotted coins from the Perth Mint.  It's a real shame because the coins are otherwise beautiful.  Terrible quality control.  I used to buy mint boxes from Perth, and the rolls inside would almost always have a few spotted coins.

I’ve tried all sorts to prevent it, with little success. Temperature control, moisture control, the lot. It used to be the maples, the Britannias are just as bad, if not worse than the maples at milking now. My queen beasts collection is also affected to some degree. I can’t stand the site of the stains. I personally would not use a mechanical method to remove the stains, the scratches left behind are even more unsightly, bullion or no bullion. Hard earned cash has gone into buying them, so there should be no excuse for such poor quality. I’ve moved over to gold.

Store of value? I think this graph speaks volumes.

I originally followed my father's career.
He died having no idea why I was doing what I was doing instead of following his example: 1/3rd of salary into investing, 1/3rd paying back the family, 1/3rd for living expenses. He thought I was a spenderella fool.
He graduated in 1950, I did in 1985.
Well I recently did the sums in purchasing power using gold ounces. I converted into dollars (exchange rates at the time) and gold spot at the time. It was illuminating.
As a young officer he was getting every month the equivalent of about two ounces of gold
    I was getting about one
Young grads nowadays get half an ounce.
That puts erroding purchasing power into perspective, it is not our imagination - we are being ripped off

The same philosophy as my late father in law. He would bang on about it to everyone, but only a few would listen. I wish he was alive today, we would have made a wicked duo.

Bearing in mind that fiat is constantly devaluing in the direction of it's true intrinsic value...
And then there is the further question of trust (or rather lack of it)  in the banking system.
The whole question of value is arbitrary anyway.  Questions of limited supply notwothstanding, gold or anything else is only valuable because everyone thinks it is and agrees it is.  In the same way that a pound note is just a piece of paper, a sovereign is just a fancy lump of metal.
As someone said above : in the event of a nuclear war a can of beans or a pack of potassium Iodide tablets would likely have more value than a sov.

The Fed came into being in 1913. What cost 2 cents then, now cost a dollar. An ounce of gold cost $20.63. An oz of gold now costs $1800. As the 'mercans say 'go figure'.

Exactly this…thought it for a long time and have always remained in a very modest home as would rather be without mortgage (single digits in years remaining now) than deal with stresses of being overstretched. Goodness knows how my children will ever afford it…

I enjoy the old British silver. A couple of half crowns should do the trick. Circulated coins, no danger of damage. Won’t break the bank even if you loose them. Saying that, I have carried a silver Britannia with me since 2015 in a leather pouch. I’ve dropped it on the hard floor a number of times, so it has a number of dinks in it. It was the first Britannia I removed from the first tube I bought from the Royal Mint; so has that sentimental value to it.

land/property is and always has been the best 'store of wealth'.  in the UK its tax friendly for the big boys with trusts n stuff..  the usurpers with their buy to let mini empires are being taxed to feck now..
everything is being taxed to feck. they will be coming after the pensions next . having a pile of gold or diamonds off grid may not make you rich, but it will keep it out of the hands of the taxman..

I don’t believe we will be going back to gold as money. For myself, it’s a way of preserving net worth in an inflationary environment. I hold multiple currencies, gold silver and btc. I don’t believe any of them on their own is the solution, but combined there is a chance.

In my humble opinion currency is only a measure for exchange. You can store the measure but its constantly being eroded by inflation. We need the measure for exchange. Mostly as its what is dictated to us by those that hold power over us (the government). Its what we have to pay our way in to them.
A store of value/ wealth I think has a subtle difference. Its some thing that we can use the measure of exchange at a specific point in time to obtain the ownership of. Then at a later date, when required it can be exchanged for what ever the current value would be in the measure of exchange. The difference in what we gave for it to what we receive is due to a, the erosion through inflation of the currency and b, the continued desirability of the item we obtained. We hope and have faith that our gold with retain is desirability due to its relative stability of supply per capita. It defiantly can not be printed in any quantity. and mining it exacts a cost. then the increase is relatively stable to increase in population and demand.
Not if we need our gold or silver or any of our PM's to become currency. We only need to be able to exchange it for what ever the currency is at the time. 20 years ago and ounce of gold was a little over £200, Its currently £1476.60. Even factoring in selling fee's. Its still performed ok. Are there better stores of wealth. Defiantly, But at what price level, availability, required knowledge level.
I'm happy with my little collection. My only regret is, I didn't start sooner. However, I prioritised, Emergency funds for immediate use. Housing, food, clothing, travel. Then a start on mid to long term financial security with the goal of creating stability for myself and family. Preservation of wealth can really only come once you have it to preserve. After living expenses have been secured.

The whole point of fiat is so that it can be debased. Printed to oblivion. Doesn’t sound like a store of value to me. We went from a gold money system, to a gold-backed fiat system, to a completely fiat system. All world currencies are backed by nothing. It’s just the confidence of the end user that allows this system to continue. One should think, why was gold and silver systematically removed from the money equation. The answer is quite obvious really.
