watchesandwhisky reacted to Paul in 2022 Sovereign design revealed?
(here is the email copied & pasted from my RM account manager) explaining the end of year, what is happening
Good afternoon Mr XXXXX,
I hope all is well! Just a warning that this is a bit of a lengthy email but there is good reason for this.
As I am sure you are aware we have recently had several releases as part of our Memorial range, including Sovereigns, sets, and individual coins which all feature the first effigy of King Charles III. One thing that you may not be aware of is that everything within this memorial range will only be available to purchase until the 31st of December, and as of the 1st of January the full range will be taken off of sale and you will no longer be able to purchase anything from this range from the Royal Mint. So even if the issue limit is 100 for example, not all of them may sell making the coin/set rarer…
I appreciate you may have already purchased coins from this range when they were released and were only restricted to what you may have previously purchased, but with the time that has elapsed the household limit has been relaxed.
These same sales window also applies to our 2023 dated coins that feature the Queen’s effigy (Lunar Rabbit and Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort), these will also be taken off sale on the 1st January and will no longer be available to purchase. Please see below the coins which are still available along with their prices, if you would like any please let me know as soon as possible so that I can put them aside for you.
Kind regards,
XXXXXX

watchesandwhisky reacted to Happypanda88 in The World's Smallest Gold Coin ...... and you thought the 1/8 sovereign was small
The World's Smallest Gold Coin
Bank of Croatia takes the title of world’s smallest gold coin from the Swiss Mint with a swansong issue smaller than a politician’s brain !
At just 0.05 grams, it weighs a tenth of a minigold coin, and is a microscopic 1/622nd of a troy ounce. The diameter of just 1.99 mm.

Don't worry about losing it because of its size. At the current spot price of gold, the melt value of the coin is only £2.35 !! 😊

watchesandwhisky got a reaction from ArgentSmith in 2022 Sovereign design revealed?
My refund is now processed, but only after I phoned and complained I hadn't received it for 7 working days - turns out "something went wrong" with the refund and they then did it manual.
Call my cynical but with interest rates where they are just holding on to customers fund for a week or two adds up with the sums we are talking... For months at a time with no product even more so.
Service from them has been shocking, QC has become a joke, and the prices and premium are just to such a point now that I don't see how they will every be profitable. And I guess that's key, Maybe that's my problem, maybe I am just not a collector anymore
I hate to say it but I am done with the royal mint.
I will still enjoy the release threads and the mad anticipation when getting queue numbers, and the trials and tribulations afterwards seeing what actually turns up and if its fit for purpose!
But for me my collecting days are over.
Bullion however ....

Apart from the modern key dates and my kids birth years, I'll stick with bullion Sovs to slowly build the stack as originally envisaged.
I've still 3 key dates to save up for and source but with limited funds it's been a pretty good haul this year thanks to many on TSF, this on top of the hype with the Platinum Jubilee/Memorial release within less than 12 months...
RM, I need some breathing space to recuperate and build up some funds again.

I know the feeling but I’m mainly collecting ancients and historical again. Modern proofs, it’s a game I’ll play when there is something I like but not stressing myself out with RM where possible. At times, they squeeze the enjoyment of collecting out of you. You shouldn’t pay premium and then be relieved when a coin eventually arrives without QC issues.
I just need to end my grading addiction now and I can just enjoy being a collector again and not worry about an arbitrary number given to a coin because somebody cleaned it 200 years ago or the silver toned so it’s now not desirable. The hobby is off the rails at the moment and I for one have/had stopped appreciating the art of coins because I was to eat up about everything else
