  1. My Kooaburra gold 1/10th’s collection is becoming pricey, as I’m using EMK (wish I could find a U.K dealer but several enquiries drew a blank 😔) Still, just love Kook’s in any form and this is the cheapest way of date running in gold for my kids.
  2. Thanks to @AgD and @sovereignsteve who proved the old adage if you don’t ask, you don’t get works. These nice 2005 Australia proof sovereign’s have turned up last few days for me.
  3. My aim is purely to diversify my asset risk and then ultimately leave that stacking portion for my kids one day. If I can get to between 10-15% of my disposable asset wealth, I’ll be happy for them. So far they have shown some interest, so dangling a few date run carrots, I’m hoping will keep them engaged. Otherwise, it’s a mix of gold and silver that I can split equally and they can store securely. Maybe the odd pension top up sale for me too.
  4. Great advice. Was always told paying off your mortgage is like removing a millstone around your neck. If you can do it before hitting 40, it’s way less stress as you age.
  5. Did my best to educate mine, that if you had uncle bens and and a curry sauce recipe (or tin), then literally anything could be curried. Seem to remember spam was my specialty. How times change 🙄😂
  6. Buddy, I know where you’re coming from, back in the day, some of mine had mouldy walls and pretty grotty bathrooms. Saying that if you’ve watched the young ones, my sons digs are a modest upgrade and given the run ins I’ve had along with another parent, with his landlord; I’d say him and his mates are some way off opulence. They’ve all took on part time summer or term time jobs, so as not to take on extra debt in their 3rd year too. The biggest laugh for him was getting furlough pay from a leisure centre he worked at before Uni. He happily took the money, but volunteered at the air ambulance shops to appease his conscience for doing so. It depends on the students and their upbringings I’d say, not all are fooled that student life, indebtedness it brings, will all be a bed of roses, due to a nailed on career and mega bucks. All down to work ethic in my mind.
  7. My son is a final year student, his campus has a Greggs, he joked tonight that Sausage Rolls have gone up 5p to £1.05; the students have managed to work out its 5% price rise.. Might take a long time, but those sort of price rises get the cogs whirring even in the masses.
  8. My freshly filled Bullion date runs with added proof for their birth years, to be stashed underneath. Hopefully they will keep these 18th birthday presents a long time.
  9. Nah, I went back fortunately to finish something a grandparent started, I’m bang up to date and completed this year phew!! 😂
  10. Definitely odd, 19 spaces 😂 They must be multi purpose as the tray pulls out and underneath there is further storage sections, for what I’d guess could be carded type capsules, or maybe a thin box display (see pic). Certainly gives me the impression the box has been used for other mint storage ideas, see jigsaw space to pull out with. I’m going to put a birth year proof there, maybe get around to getting them slabbed. Then plain old Bullion sovereigns from birth to 18. My original idea was 2 lots of 10 boxes and a birth year proof for handout at the eldest 21st, but this is a neater stack for my coin OCD. I’ve an 18th and 21st this year, they already know all my collections will be theirs to split, as safely stored until they want them or at least move away and sort their own storage.
  11. Didn’t know that, would still be a better deal to buy the case with coin on checking current prices; just for if anybody else was thinking of doing the same.
  12. Your feedback led me to search a bit more and got these cases, they are superbly packaged a real good quality. Know I’ve paid more for the 2022 sovereign buying through the mint, but I couldn’t find any dealer offering similar cases. Space for a carded birth year or proof underneath the tray too. Going to have fun filling them with a date run later.
  13. Holding several silver plays from mid tier/junior to an explorer; honestly haven’t cashed any in yet, simply because they haven’t reached my price targets. It’s been a good few days.
  14. You’re in a good place and with time on your hands, it provides the perfect opportunity to browse the forum threads.
  15. Thank you for posting this, made me think hard. Was tempted to buy a load in blister packs, now I think I’ll either go with a case with one and the remainder in a couple of tubes. Great question and thought process. Trying to decide whether a case on R.M website is a bit clunky for storage, it’s hard to gauge the size though. Only have so much storage space in a safe place 🤔
  16. Simply brilliant @matt1r. Slightly curious if you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take to collect these beauties? It was your comment on the full sovereigns, that got me wondering.
  17. Wouldn’t be investing in anything to do with water myself, the commercial payback is so low.
  18. This is a good theme to pick up, not just because of prepping survival. Water wars were a developing theme in the last decade, I genuinely think both water and water purification will be a wise asset to own or have access to at some point; just too early for investment, for me anyway right now. Remember buying into water tech, the research just drains funds, the payback and commercialisation of some aspects will take time. Water ETF’s came out around 07, think it was Barclays to offer the first in the U.K; really can’t remember if it was the water companies or services to them it invested in. Moving on Aquaponic farming is another theme that’s gathering interest. Back to the original question, if I’d have been asked 2 years ago, I’d have been holding more cash. Now though, a fair proportion of my spare cash goes into P.M’s, just see it as useful diversification and risk management. There will be opportunities post a crash, there always is; well in stock market for sure there will.
  19. Picking up on cars, I’m told one of the main impacts on supply chains was the shortage of “chips”, the lack of microchips has been a knock to the supply chain since Covid issues began. Trying not to derail the original question I’ve no experience of liquidating physical assets in a crash but paper assets can be very traumatic, particularly for those in need of funds. Virtually everything, goes down in paper assets, even quality companies, as forced liquidity creates pressure on all paper assets. This is one of the reasons I sought to diversify into physical assets.
  20. My stacking goals. Buy 2022 sovereigns, complete date runs I have going, get around to finally completing a thin out of a modest silver stack and come to some decisions with the Proofs I have, sell them off, go grab more.
  21. @richatthecroftthat 2002 set is simply stunning and despite not being a proof collector it gives me an urge 😂
  22. Many thanks @Chrispringle85 and @trp for always making this exciting.
  23. I’ve done similar and made no secret of it on here. My kids had a unfinished date run, their grandfather was responsible for starting this interest, I’ve just finished it off. Both mine will get 21st birthday gifts. I’m also constantly trying to find other ideas to capture their imagination. I’m sort of doing a bit of inheritance planning and having fun myself as a casual hobby. Hopefully they will get emergency nest eggs. Ideally, they will squirrel it for asset diversification but if they choose to pay off a mortgage or some sort of fun so be it.
  24. Exactly this. I’m almost certain a postie told me whilst they don’t have to obtain signatures with Covid guidance etc, the technology they use, means the postie must have been at your address and scanned the item.
  25. This was a steal of a deal, wish I’d logged in yesterday morning and noticed, when I clicked the link last night I think it said 17 sold in the last 24 hours; should think a fair number were TSF members, well done to all.
