Why do our effigies always look off?

Seriously! The final QEII effigy made her look angry, and this first KCIII effigy makes him look like he’s moping.

If I were either of them, I’d say “Do better!”

I prefer the MJ version but I don’t dislike this one. Some out there are truely dreadful

Aaaahhh😉

Looks like he's wearing contact lenses.

And a double breasted suit… for an official effigy… on national coinage. 😵‍💫

This is one reason why modern Aussie coins will never be classics - the effigies lack regality and a sense of timelessness. They just look like any other person’s picture stamped on a coin face.

Perhaps they were trying to make him look like a commoner (including being jaded with the monotony of everyday life). 😋

Isn't this off the RM PoW 70th birthday protrait?

The worst QE2 effigy was the last Canadian one, it was AWFUL. It looked more like Betty White.

For a moment I thought that was Hilary Clinton

If we do the right thing this time, we might have to do the right thing again next time.

Looks like even Charlie is disappointed with this.

Rumour was he was looking at a photo of Harry while the image was being taken 🤣

The whole coin view does take some focus off the eyes. I agree the 70th birthday is a better design. Martin Jennings still the best imho. Will be hard to better that one

That was actually a pretty good portrait (I think it all hinges on the eyes and the posture).

The suit worked for when he wasn’t yet King.

Yes, and this looks much much better than the one will be in use.

Yes!!!

The MJ portrait captures a regal demeanour that continues a centuries-long numismatic tradition.

All other portraits fall short, some much more than others.
