Storing my collection advice

Hi Everyone,

Firstly I’ve really enjoyed being part of this group since I’ve joined in the past week. 
I have found some really nice pieces and enjoyed dealing with everyone I’ve purchased off. Now I have a little problem. I have nothing to store my collection in 😂 

Does anyone have any recommendations for boxes or cases for 1oz coins and 1oz bars? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻

😂 I have a safe on order I was more thinking of a little box or something to hold the coins so they are not just loose 🙂

I like pelican cases, lots of different sizes to suit. Can be picked up pretty cheap on eBay.

To be quite honest, any silver coins I keep in a safe are in capsules and then put into a variety of cardboard tubes, just keeps them neat and tidy!

Hi and welcome to the forum. 

When you are talking about storing your collection, are you talking off site or in the home?   

Are you collecting gold, silver or both?   Silver is more difficult to keep it from toning or milking and do not mix with any other metals.  Also because of the density of gold and silver, it will take 128 times more space for silver than gold for the same value.  For these reasons most people buy gold and it is so much easier to store. 

Think about it 40 sovereigns are worth approximately £15000 and take up no more room than a tube of smarties. Requires not much looking after as it does not tarnish. Only Proofs need more care.

With everything the best safe is your mouth, keep it close and tell very few of what you have.

When I joined there was many members that use to get @Alun to make them. Not sure if he still does it but here is one of his sales posts (in the coin accessories section).

To be honest, once your stack grows, the idea of keeping everything in nice boxes will go out of the window as takes up a lot of room. Your better off buying a monster box and keeping coins and bars in that

I only really buy pre decimal so can just throw it in a pile. I have a few bits of 999 but not enough to worry about how I am going to store it.

So for coins, I put them in capsules and then in a plastic pipe (as in a plumbing pipe) with end caps.  Then in a safe.

Don't get pipe too long….the weight crushes the capsules at the bottom if stored vertically…..

What do you use for end caps?

I use the ends they sell in plumbing shops. Glue one in place at the bottom and bobs your uncle!
