2023 coronation bullion sovereign lack of detail.

Just received my bullion coronation sovereign and not very happy at all. The lack of detail on George and the horse is shocking, it looks so flat even compared to a 2000.

Sovereigns in recent years have tended to lack detail and seem flat.  Can you do a picture of your sovereign?

It looks very flat compared to the 1964!  Could some of that be the finish though?  Matte finishing (or perhaps just general aging) might make the detail easier for the eye to see. The glossy glare masks some detail much like in glossy vs matte photographs? Maybe? Haha.

Think Tank: "Probably not, some of the blighters have Sigma PMV machines."

Royal mint:  "What if we get a few lad's from the local collage on a YTS. Won't have to pay them as much as them experienced Old g!ts."

Think Tank: "You could be on to some thing. We'll tell them we need to pension them off. State pension of course. Then have a chat with the collage and get them on work experience. Can't see any problem at all."

Royal mint:  "Damn good idea. By the way, We need 12 special editions and releases this year. Also, Tell everyone they're limited mintage, but don't tell them its limited to how much gold we can get. Put the mintage figures out in 5 years. 

                     Beep, Beep: "Susan, get J P Morgan on the phone. I want them to supress the gold price again till we get our delivery."

Must admit, I'm happy with mine.  Though I haven't directly compared it to any of the older ones.  Maybe I'll just keep it totally separate after seeing the difference in yours. 😄

I have a 2018 and a 2013 and find it hard to tell which is which without looking very closely lol.

Touch wood I've not been displeased with any new bullion Sov yet, it's the 999 silver and gold that RM seem to screw up in my personal experience.

Also due some bullion from Chards ordered weeks ago with capsules. The last 5 in capsules were scratched but without capsules fine.

Mine's scheduled to turn up on Friday, from Chards.

I've got the bullion double sov version from the RM already.  The one they sent me is acceptably detailed, and it has the helmet streamer on the reverse. whereas the full sov does not.

Got mine today and it’s the same as yours. Obverse seems fine though

Similarly you can compare the proof versions of, say, 2023 and 1981 St. George and Dragon and the newer one is much plainer and more lacking in details than the old. I guess this is probably because of some "new technology" RM now uses to "improve" accuracy. Hmmmm

Actually, all modern coins are much much flat comparing with Victoria's era.  The low relief designs, maybe down to costs, made modern coins not good for appreciation purpose.

Nowadays the older sovereigns would be considered high relief by todays standards. Modern coins hardly have any depth to them. Quite a shame.
