  1. Not really. It’s actually been a trend for years.
  2. I’m putting off all purchases until summer, when prices are bound to come down as is the norm. July/ August when everyone is on summer break and traffic is at its lowest is the sweet spot.
  3. If the Muslim community want to collect this I say more power to them, but it’s a hard pass for me.
  4. Yawn…….because of all this talk of sleep.
  5. This product isn’t aimed at gold collectors but rather at gamers which there are a heck of a lot more of. Hence the included in-game weapon charm code. COD has a massive following world wide. That’s the reason for the greater mintage for this product compared to the Wonka bar. If I were to guess it will sellout quickly and is very likely to increase in value. Not due to pm collectors but due to game paraphernalia collectors. It’s best left sealed and untouched in its box if purchased as an investment.
  6. However compelling your endorsement may sound, I’m reluctant to become a paying member given i reside in the EU and can’t be bothered with the hassle of purchasing overseas. The hassle of dealing with customs, having to file for tax and duties returns, the relatively long delivery periods, high shipping fees, the stress of stuff getting lost or stolen let alone having to sort things out if anything goes wrong and I need to recoup my funds or need to return stuff due to goods not being up to specs or stressing about authenticity are all hassles I can do without. I’m a collector first and a stacker second. Peace of mind is worth the extra cost to me. I’m very finicky about the stuff I buy and demand that quality is on par with the price I pay. And if not so, I simply return the stuff for an exchange or refund. Besides buying from established dealers in the EU guarantees that products are legit. I sleep good at night having no worries about counterfeits. Had I lived in the UK I would signup in a heartbeat. I enjoy this forum and the interaction with likeminded people. But all things considered I don’t see the appeal as of yet. My honest 2 cents. To each their own.
  7. In view of recent developments this might be a good time to stack up on KCIII collectible coins given his reign might not be so long. Share your thoughts.
  8. Great looking bar. I like the claws and scales on the dragon but the head design could have been better. The budget friendly 5g PAMP dragon is a good alternative.
  9. For all we know the previous owner might have been single with no next of kin. The most recent coin of the stash was dated 2018. Perhaps the original owner succumbed to Covid. Perhaps they severed ties with all family members. Court appointed curators step in and everything gets catalogued and subsequently auctioned off. It’s no different than people that make a living out of participating in storage locker auctions whose owners defaulted on their payments for whatever reason, which sometimes turnout to have a fortune in valuables. It’s just the luck of the draw.
  10. In this design the horse appears to be shagging the dragon.
  11. Update: I received my replacement coin today. Let’s just say it won’t fetch a MS70 grade but it is a heck of a lot better than the previous monstrosity they sent me. All in all I’m pleased with the outcome.
  12. Poor chap. But I can understand the conundrum he faced. He wasn’t by himself when he made the discovery. And people talk. Holding on to those bars would have put a giant target on his back. Then again as previously stated, perhaps he only turned in part of the loot and split the rest with the other guy.
  13. Update: The dealer replied today apologizing for the inconvenience and honoring my request for a replacement. They also included a prepaid return label. Now that’s good service. Now let’s just hope the replacement is in better shape than the coin I’m returning.
  14. It all has to do with supply and demand. The queens beasts series is extremely popular and therefore command a premium. Perhaps readily available in the UK but not so in other parts of the world. A lot of UK dealers and forum sellers won’t ship goods abroad. And then there is the hassle with taxes, clearance fees, authenticity, insurance etc etc. It’s not uncommon for stuff to get tied up for over a month at customs. I’ve imported gold before and recouping duties and taxes can be quite tedious. I’ve been monitoring the supply of these coins at the dealer I bought it from, and they’ve been steadily dropping over the course of last month. So apparently there is demand and they are selling. Collectors will pay whatever they deem is fair. 20% premium may seem like a lot, but it’s all relative.
  15. An argument in favor of grading coins is that it’s an excellent method of ascertaining authenticity. Especially concerning older and ancient coins.
  16. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll keep it in mind.
  17. I hope they do; especially given the amount of purchases I’ve made from this dealer in the last year.
  18. I immediately filed a complaint after reading his post.
  19. The listing shows stock photography. Plus there is no disclaimer as to the coin customers would be receiving. They do mention however that the coins are stored in tubes as is the custom with bullion.
  20. Here you go: It looks like QEII got stabbed in the jugular. It appears to be chipped on close inspection. Perhaps occurred during minting? The rest of the coin is flawless.
  21. Today I received an uncirculated bullion Yale Queens Beasts 1/4 oz coin that I bought for a hefty 20% premium from a German dealer. The coin has an abrasion that looks like a pothole, most likely a bag mark visible with the naked eye near the cheekbone of QEII. I’d like to hear your opinions on whether this is acceptable given it’s a bullion coin or worthy of a complaint?
  22. They shouldn’t, but it depends on what Tavex declared on the customs form.
  23. My guess would be “details cleaned.” Fields are covered in parallel scratches except in the hard to get places like between the writing and the eagle’s talons.

    A buying dilemma

Not certain if that £1600 is hypothetical or not, but I’d advise you to spread your purchases over time. You’re more likely to net a better average than spending it all at once and discovering later on you purchased when spot was at its peak. Then again purchasing in bulk could save you some money. Dilemmas dilemmas.
  25. I would first breakout the XRF. Funny. Bought from BBP and rare in the same sentence? Now I highly doubt it. Dealers screen all inventory before it leaves the shop. Chards personally goes with his loupe over every coin before it hits the website and keeps all the rare stuff for himself and subsequently auction’s it off.
