Not sure if this has already been confirmed on this thread, but the former Prince of Wales refused to sit for portraits ‘as a monarch’ whilst QEII was alive. Likely that it will now be some time before this is sorted. Unless the sort this before the coronation etc.

Like @GoldDiggerDave said history suggests the first sovereign with KCIII on the obverse will be 2023.

I wonder if the passing of The Queen at this time of year with 2023 bullion sovereigns due to be released in two ish months time, that might not happen.

Possibly they’ll continue minting 2022 sovereigns for longer, into 2023 or we might see 2023 sovereigns with both monarchs.

I would still be very surprised if we see any further coins dated 2023 with QEII's effigy on them.  The ones that were released to the public in the days/weeks prior to her death should remain the only examples, in my opinion.

Regarding the 2022 sovereign range it may well be the case that these continue to be minted as bullion coins until the RM is ready to release the 2023 bullion sovereign coins with KCIII's effigy on them.  I would expect the release of the 2023 proof sovereign range to be similarly delayed.

I agree with you completely - this just seems most logical.
