Hello! Dipping my toe...

Recommended Posts

I've been enjoying watching Backyard Bullion on Youtube which lead me here! Always loved the idea of collecting metals - in particular I have a fascination for unusual coins, specifically coins of unusual shape or design. This probably sounds bizarre but as a kid I used to have weird dreams where I had strange coins in my pocket - I remember one triangle one that stands out vividly, and I've always been on the lookout for these in real life. I've never really had the means to purchase precious metals before, but at this time in my life I'm in a position to take a paddle in the shallow end! I'm also interested in non-precious, circulated coins of interest, not for any investment potential but just for the interest and enjoyment.

I realise I have a bit to learn, but plan on taking it slowly and enjoying the learning process. See you all around!

hellloooo and welcome... if you like the triangle coins look for the Australian Shipwreck series.. bit more expensive than your normal silver coins but they are fab imho

Haha funny you should mention that - I just bought a 2020 Zuytdorp shipwreck - overpriced as you say, but it looks a beaut, and fills my triangle void!

just three more to go unless you factor in the antique finish ones too haha..

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.

Welcome.

@Gordybeat me to it.

Some other interesting ones there is the route 66 series with some shield shaped 1 oz silver pieces, maybe the Perth mint rectangular coin bars too.

Whilst we all stack and collect for different reasons there is a value on the enjoyment that some coins might give you beyond the metal value.

I wouldn't pay a high premium for a silver brit for eg but as a bit of a sideshow from my stack I collect a handful of higher premium t rex based coins..... Just got me thinking

Out of say 300 oz bullion it might be 5 oz of 'fun stuff' for eg

The route 66 ones sound interesting, I'll have a search. Last night I found some Bermuda silver proof coins, some $3 which depict another shipwreck series, and a $9 larger 5oz proof. Prices varying quite widely especially on the $9 one, it's listed on eBay for 250, 350 and 450 depending on seller.

Thanks for the tips!
