Another new stacker here from the UK

Hello all!

I thought I would sign up, introduce myself and start a conversation on how to stack Silver 1oz Britannia's as a complete newbie to building a collection for the kids.  I've bought a handful of coins for the kids birth years, to-date; 2002, 2003 & 2006 all on the original Royal Mint blue cards off of fleebay so suspect I've already paid a newbie tax on these... 🙄

I'm unsure if I'm classed as a stacker, collector or both but my aim is a simple collection for each of the offspring, starting from their birth years and buying one each year until they're 21 as a nice little birthday present each, at which point if they want to continue they are on their own.

I based in Cambridgeshire, near silicon fen and have been virtually all of my life.  I'm a bit of hoarder at the best of times with collections ranging from my old Star Wars figures, the odd watch and car so perhaps it's time to also dabble in Silver 😎

Although currently unfamiliar with the site I'd appreciate any pointers on where to begin my research, do I continue buying coins on cards, opt for loose, with capsules, graded or how best to store coins etc. and yes... once I am more familiar,  I'll begin searching and chatting in earnest!

Anyhow, hope to hear from you all soon.

Lee

Sir, your a legend... in the meantime I've been searching.

I think as I'm still classified as a new member rather than member, I don't yet have the privileges although the aim was to add the same pic!

As @ChrisSilver mentions the benefits of membership @CaptCaveManis well worth it if you are stacking like seeing new listings or the rich picking will be sold without membership.

Really good value for money!  We are a friendly bunch here - no nonsense in the crazy world of PM's!

Thank-you both @ChrisSilver and @HerefordBullyun, I'll get my profile pic up shortly...

I'll get my bearings first before signing up but yes, suspect it will work out as great value for money for that exact reason!

I'm just browsing at the moment, behaving like a leach on the great advice available so won't be rushing into multiple purchases... famous last words!

Welcome cave man

I've been a member for a few weeks. I decided from the offset that this was my cup of tea so decided I would wait till I hit 100 community points before signing up for premium. The same as you i need time to work things out. If your new to the game and you like nostalgia it might give you a bit of time to work out what you may want to collect. I'm a bit of a hoarder myself so have a nice split between 999 and pre decimal. Be warned tho I was never really interested in gold, but since being here I am already planing my mini fort nox.

Enjoy

@CaptCaveManWelcome to the forum!

I am also Cambridge based - good to meet another local.

The Sales section here is very good and this alone is worth the membership of TSF!

The search function is excellent for deep diving many old conversations that may answer questions you have.

Many thanks for the warm welcome  and @dicker, good to see someone local - perhaps when we're finally allowed to mingle again a beer maybe in order... after a haircut 😁

Welcome to the silver addicts club.
You state you are a fan of Brits.
Silver Britannias make a terrific collectible coin set.
I have a couple for my kids inheritance.
For birthdays or special years you could check out the 4 coin proof Britannia boxed sets that include a 1 ; 0.5; 0.25 and 0.1 oz coin.
They are kind of special and sometimes appear on the Bay for sale but watch out for enthusiastic prices and marked coins ( toning is common on the smaller coins ).

PM me for any missing date silver Britannias as I may have spares but some dates are begging to fetch a well above average price so do your research.

Thanks @Pete, that's my initial aim, to build up a set of Brits for the kids from their birth years until they're 21 so x22 coins each in total, a nice little surprise for them.

I don't think I'll be a major player here but aim to buy a small amount each month - am I able to pm you a list, not up on forum rules as yet?

On reading through a number of post on the searches I've made most appear to come as Silver Stackers then migrate over to Gold, Sovereign's seeming to be the go to choice - think I have too many collections on the go to sink any spare change into Gold...

Many thanks @5huggy, lot's to read and learn!

Looks like I'll be collecting for the kids and perhaps buying and empty monster box for myself to fill at this rate 😎

Perhaps tube of 25 per year... 🤔

After some reading up I'm leaning towards loose Britannias for the kids as the way to go, in capsules and then all in a tube each rather than worrying about buying coinsin the original RM cards etc. seems the standard for simple collections unless you want to display them.

Stacking is stacking, building up a portfolio of coins whatever the PM for the medium, long term... interesting.

I'm assuming the best place to buy is here on the forum, more honest pricing re: PM value + spot + postage compared to some dealers or places such as fleebay etc. hence value for money in membership.  It's similar to another forum I frequent, Omega Forums re: private sales with collectors vs. dealer prices (again, generalisation - apologies).
