Anyone get a 1oz gold here then ?? congrats if you did

Hopefully Paul. It may be the first raw coin I get graded to flip though (assuming it doesn’t have to be returned due to quality control issues).

Mintage figures for upcoming Bowie proof coins in January :

  • David Bowie UK 2020 2oz Silver Proof Coin – 550 available
  • David Bowie UK 2020 5oz Silver Proof Coin – 500 available
  • David Bowie UK 2020 2oz Gold Proof Coin – 100 available
  • David Bowie UK 2020 5oz Gold Proof Coin – 60 available
  • David Bowie UK 2020 Gold Proof Kilo Coin – 11 available

So they’ve doubled the mintage on the 2oz gold Bowie from 50 (Queen and Elton). Still, less than the Bond 2oz Gold Bond mintages at 250 per coin.

So these should have some special “minting technology” on the coin too. Wonder what that will look like??

Yes, that’s a fair assumption. I took the bait because I thought there was a lot less chance of landing the 2oz when it’s released. Plus I wasn’t going to dither. A case of clicking on the first thing I saw to get it in the basket and paid for before they sold out minutes later. Not counting my chickens yet though.

There is double the mintage on the 2oz now at 100 coins compared to 50 for Queen and Elton. Better start saving again 😉

I’ve missed out on the 1oz gold Bowie. Funds were returned to the bank account. That’s after the RM sent the email acknowledgment of my order just 4 minutes into the coins launch (subject to availability).

Looks like a RM free 2020 then, as I’ve not bought anything direct since silver Una 13 months ago.

Isn’t it pathetic customer service when they can’t even be bothered to send a follow-up email to say sorry but you’ve missed out?

They have probably just reversed the payment until they have it ready for dispatch.

I'm still waiting for the 2oz Bond 2 since early September. They've taken the payment at least 3 times that I've noticed only to reverse it shortly afterwards.

I find that the Royal Mint put a marker on your bank account for the value of the coin(s) when you place the order without taking the money so it shows as a pending payment. Then it disappears after a few days and then they take the money when they despatch the coin(s).

Thanks for that info. I was looking last night and see no evidence of any pending transaction on 2 coins that I am awaiting. I have 3 coins on order all separate transactions and I will be disenchanted to say the least if I am not successful on any of the coins I have ordered.

Are the Perth mint doing the music legends?

ACDC

I've posted my opinion here before but coins (actual coins, not rounds issued by a private mint) featuring popular music is really a bad idea. I'm saying this is a rock/metal fan myself.

I can pretty much guarantee you that rock acts like ACDC in twenty years time, or maybe even in ten years time, will simply be forgotten about. The classics will live and abide forever.

Aren't there any great British or Australian musical composers like Mozart or Beethoven who actually deserve to be featured on a coin?

Not as good as those two

This little lot to be released in January, but I am wondering when, because January is marching onwards.

They are not on sale yet. You can only register interest at the Royal Mint and other suppliers, like BCC.

Beg to differ, they were available at 8.50am, £12,999 and £25,000, now changed to £0.01.

What sort of response is that?

Anyway, they are not currently for sale anywhere and if they were, it was likely a publishing error.

I received an email from BCC saying they were in stock and I was able to buy.... no idea if it was a publishing error!

Clearly just a ‘premature’ error. It’s a bit amateur from them.

Saying that, Koin Club were selling the Elton 5oz months before the Royal Mint released it. Royal Mint were not happy about that, but perhaps the contracts don’t prevent it?

This is off thread. Apologies.

The prices quoted are pretty outrageous. I expect they will be significantly cheaper from The Royal Mint.

Yes, agree re outrageous prices. According to 'The Sun' back in December the 5oz would be £11,815 from RM.

That is probably about right. Still can’t blame them for wanting to get the prices that others will get on the secondary market.

This does fill me with dread as to what they will be asking for the Three Graces!!!!!
