Why are the Queen’s Beasts so popular?

Two of the major reasons I feel the Queen’s Beasts are so popular is that they are beautifully designed and the fact they will skyrocket in value when the Queen dies which should be within the next few years. They are excellent collector and investment coins. Most investors and collectors who haven’t bought any Queen’s Beasts will be kicking themselves once the Queen dies. I know that I’ll eventually recover all the premiums on the Queen’s Beasts which is why I’m not bothered about buying the more expensive earlier coins.

The fact that they're not another Lunar series probably helps.

I like the coins, they're all beautifully designed, even the Falcon, in my opinion. The name helps as well as it's quite catchy.

It's probably unlikely that the later coins will increase in value by that much. Most collectors would have caught onto the trend by then and there will become too easy to pick up. The Lion on the other hand...

I think the fact that they are just really nice looking coins is most of it. I'm sure some are in to them because they look like good investments but I'd imagine most of us buy them because they just look fantastic. I pretty much only buy Canadian coins for my personal collection however I really love the look of these coins so have been buying them

Why would they go up in value substanitallly when she dies? I would assume the must be too many coins with her on them for there to ever be a problem getting hold of some.

By the way think they are excellent buying. Very affordable premiums compared to market averages. CGT free. Huge performance spikes in how the lion and griffin are doing already.

My only negative on them is the quality seems very poor. Marked and spotted coins is the norm rather than the exception in my humble opinion

agree.

I have got all of them in bullion 1 oz gold, in fact I have 3 of the unicorn and had to pay an eye watering sum of money to be able to get the Lion, griffin and dragon but I reckon the premium will only go up and not worried about the high premium I paid for them.

obviously they look lovely but that's not the reason I bought them, I don't carry them with me everyday everywhere to enjoy the good look of these coins, I bought them purely for investment purposes  but I also wanted to take some risk and have some fun with it,  I think the premium will go up but it might not go up, when it comes to gold anything can happen and to me that's fun and exciting.

only time can tell what will happen and i shall carry on buying the rest of the series.

Probably due to having different designs which are quite nice and a bit more adult rather than cuddly bears and other cartoon like characters, or the same design repeated time and time again of some guy killing a dragon.  They are pure silver and pure gold and CGT free.

Also probably unlikely to be a series 2.

I can't imagine many kids saying please mum or please dad can I have a Paddington bear coin for Christmas.

Parent saying are you sure?  Wouldn't you prefer a games console or mobile phone?  Nah,  Paddington bear coin please, all the kids at school have em.

I started giving young family members silver coins and BUNC packs (e.g. Peter Rabbit etc) years ago and so far they love them. You're right it's not something they would have asked for except the lad (now 9) who wanted a 2016 Kook, but they're never disappointed. In years to come they'll remember me because of these coins. It's the quality keepsakes I got from my grandparent etc that mean the most now they're gone, some toys I remember fondly but most are long gone and kids these days have so many. Youngest (7) is absolutely obsessed with checking change from shops and so excited when she finds a 'special one' :)

Blimey, lots of little and littler Coinsters there GrahamDiamond, you have a fertile family, great stuff! :D

Completely agree on all the choices you've highlighted there :) The Niue Star Wars silver ounces are a little bit disappointing for me, I think they deserved more attention and a higher finish considering the licence cost (unless you mean the movie poster bars which I think are stunning) but they are certainly 'good enough' to get the young 'uns interested/obsessed that's for sure!

I'd also chuck in Steamboat Willie and Scrooge McDuck (not because to my surprise I fell in love with them myself and want to keep them all for myself, no, not at all :P).

We love coins us!!! :D

Same! I just think the premiums i paid on the lion and griffin will cost average out over the whole set. I’d be interested to know what peoples plans are with the sets? Seems like many are just waiting for the queen to pop her cloggs bless her! Will there be market to sell the complete sets soon after 2020 or is it best to off load individual ones for best prices?

For me personally this is the set i wish to complete and keep - ill unload any bullion sovs before i sell any of the QBs. And if and when i do sell I’d prefer to sell the whole set as I wouldnt want to break the set up. Interested to know other people’s thoughts/plans.

Yeah if i could have got in on the proofs i would have but not prepared to pay the premiums on the back dated ones now. Your set looks great. Will you release them as a full set or off load them individually? Or dont know yet? Lol

will probably have to break the set up.

Trying to sell as a set of 10 coins that originaly cost about £18.5k (hopefully adding a few £k on top) reduces the buyer population I should imagine.

I feel like the premiums on the non-Lion coins should eventually be higher than on the Lion, simply due to the numbers.

In gold bullion form there are 72% more Lions out there than Griffins, and even in silver 2oz there are 40% more Lions out there than Griffins. That's a lot of extra coins.

Oh really that’s interesting. It will be interesting to see what the early coins fetch once there are none available from any dealers. Do you think the premiums will hold or is it likely after a certain window the buzz will die down after the set is finished in a couple of years? I know no one really knows what will happen i just like to know peoples perspectives.

I personally wouldn’t want to sell my QB ever, unless I’m really really desperate,  I might sell my two extra unicorns should the premium go really high but selling the whole set or breaking the set is not my intention.

i’m not British but I really hope nothing bad happens to her majesty at least in the next 10 years.

Thats cool, for me never selling is like putting money in a bank account with no intention to ever withdraw any.

I have no intentions to sell any time soon - its long term but i do intend to cash out for more than I bought in when the time comes.

No doubt I’ll change my tune when i have kids though 😂

It shouldn't really.

You will retire one day, you'll need a pension/top up.

You can support your kids on your salary (or the taxpayer)

well obviously if I have to sell and have no other choice then I'll see, otherwise there is no need.
