If you chew on them for while, like I do, they will end up as a grey mulchy mess. Spit it out and wait for a few hours and you'll have a really off putting pile of goop. Pop into Tesco and get a Sharpie at this point and maybe a milkshake from the inevitable MacDonut next door.

    Hello!
The pictured item was in a little job lot of sterling silver recently acquired. I've identified it as being made by Adie & Lovekin, 1915, Birmingham assay office. It seems Adie & Lovekin made many miniature items (sword bookmarks etc) so this could be something like that (scabbard maybe for a tiny sword), unless someone can see a function for it? It has a thin piece of metal inside, I inserted a lolly pop stick and this piece moved aside and pushed against the stick locking it in. Presumably then something was meant to be inserted into it. It's approximately 60mm in length.
I haven't been able to find anything the same but the firm made loads of stuff so this may just take time.
No goal here other than satisfying curiosity 🌞

Arganto reacted to Silverlocks in Grading: Cleaned (1846 Sovereign)
I've got a few Victorian sovs that have definitely been polished - if the original finish is worn off, then sometimes it's not obvious if the sov has wear after being polished.  It will show up better on photos, though.  Mostly they still look fine to the naked eye and I'm less stressed about these as they're in grades where you wouldn't bother to get them slabbed.

    1880S not polished

    1884M, probably polished but worn

1883M where you can see polished fields.
