Help Identifying Sterling Item

Arganto

Recommended Posts

Hello!

The pictured item was in a little job lot of sterling silver recently acquired. I've identified it as being made by Adie & Lovekin, 1915, Birmingham assay office. It seems Adie & Lovekin made many miniature items (sword bookmarks etc) so this could be something like that (scabbard maybe for a tiny sword), unless someone can see a function for it? It has a thin piece of metal inside, I inserted a lolly pop stick and this piece moved aside and pushed against the stick locking it in. Presumably then something was meant to be inserted into it. It's approximately 60mm in length.

I haven't been able to find anything the same but the firm made loads of stuff so this may just take time.

No goal here other than satisfying curiosity 🌞

Looks like a button hole holder.

The odd thing is the little tab is pointing the wrong way

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

I think you may have nailed it; the tab facing up would stop it reversing itself out of the button hole maybe? It explains the tab inside, it would grip the flower stem nicely 🌞

Tried it, works a treat. Thanks, that has been a bit of a head scratcher. Not heard of a miniature vase for your lapel before 🌞
