  1. I've seen a few on eBay go through the auction not identified by NGC and the seller. I have also seen 2 coins sold on TCC recently, both had the same error, both with the error described correctly by TCC. The coin with the higher grade sold for less than the lower grade coin, all because the lower grade coin has the error attributed on the slab. Crazy! Yes, very likely. I suspect some just go unspotted too.
  2. I think you need to make his manager aware of what happened. Just in case it's not a one off "accident".
  3. Fantastic conservation on this coin from @GoldDiggerDave, it had copper spots and some sticky black debris on it. NGC population has only 3 at PF70 so really pleased with the result, all thanks to Dave, he comes highly recommended from me.
  4. Wow, you don't see many of them around.
  5. Apologies @dicker, just pipped you!
  6. The original poster, @TheGoldSovereign, has an interesting website and one of the pages sets out the dies numbers against the dates used. It's interesting to see how the format illustrates how the dies may have been used from one year to another: https://thegoldsovereign.com/resources/sovereign-die-numbers
  7. Have you found something special @dicker, you've caught my attention! Perhaps different dies used for the same dates...?
  8. Don't try chlorine, it's very dangerous, it'll probably kill you 🤪
  9. Some of my favourites are the jubilee head sovereigns. Not really known for their errors but lots of varieties; different legends, short tails, different JEB initial types..... "The Jubilee Head Gold Sovereign 1887-1893" by David Iverson will help you through the search. 👍
  10. Thank you. There were no posts when I replied and bang...... It was sold! Just not quick enough this time.
  11. @shawy2510 , think you've got at typo, the title says 1907M but the photos are of 1907S 👍
  12. Yes, I agree. I remember @LawrenceChard starting a good post describing ghosting with some good images. Here it is:
  13. Thanks for the recommendation but I'll pass (wind) on the beans!
  14. No words required, chart says it all.......
  15. The 2018 SOTD shows more detail and is a better strike than the proof!
  16. They go back some time. I had a quick look in my Royal Mint Coin Club Bulletins and the earliest reference I saw was for £5 gold coin minted in 1984:

  18. Nice photos Dave, they really show off the qualities of the Gillick Head sovereigns. You've got a quality strike with a lovely satin finish, unlike modern bullion. Looking at the NGC and PCGS populations for both 57 and 59 on balance I can't see alot of difference, but high grades of 1962 might get overlooked.
  19. Hi, any chance of photos of 1887, 1890 and 1892, obverse and reverse please?
