Personally, ahem, I would recommend 2 x100g cast bars to transport in the 'smuggler's purse' 😉
I wouldn't chance 1oz coins, especially if the capsules were non-pvc free.
Jewellery is best...I might commission some golden beads...

The watch, whether Rolex or whatever, seems to be the best solution.
Looking at the bigger picture, if you're a chap like this you are probably in a hotspot and that means border crossings. Ideally you don't want to declare anything, it gets you noticed, so cash and bullion are no-nos. A few gold coins in your wallet perhaps. A watch won't set off alarms.
Crypto, well you might have to go to the local McDonalds to find a wifi signal and crypto is traceable.
So, the watch, a few gold coins and maybe some gold jewellery?
A little bit of water added to scotch is a great compromise

my thoughts exactly. not gold coins but a gold chain might prove useful in those situations.

7 x 10oz silver bars vs 1 oz gold coin. He would carry the gold coin as he could hide it better.

Diverse perspective...critically thinking, he may not be fully correct on a couple of the reasonings, but as every scenario, depends on the situation...and in closing, should have had scotch, not water.

No worries, but I would have to disagree about the use of the word hate. To my mind, it is calling into question disreputable trading practices to highlight them for the less knowledgeable. To put it into context, imagine a relative of yours proudly showing off their "new" shiny 2020! Gold sovereign to you, that the salesman had said was a wonderful investment and a gift for the grandchildren or as part of the inheritance. Would you have the heart to tell him or her that what had been bought was only worth £315, when you see that they had been sold this and price they had paid.

Probably 90% of the population have no idea whatsoever about the value of gold, or even what a sovereign looks like. They rely on the honesty and integrity of salesmen. Sadly, their trust is often misplaced because of the greed of certain companies like H&B and the one linked above, who trade on people's naivety.

Maybe a coincidence, although they denied it anyway. I had two phone calls this morning from the Jubilee Mint in Bournemouth. They are pushing a new Alderney proof gold £1 coin on behalf of the RNLI (8gms, 995 minted, yours for the very reasonable sum of £995)🤣
The only place I can think that they got my mobile number was from H&B ( without my consent of course) since I have never done business with any of the Jubilee, Westminster, Commonwealth or London Mint companies, but H&B sell the products from them all.
I shouldn't get any more calls after the conversation I just had with them.

Thankfully I am well familiar with the relationships between them.all, and their lack of any connection to.tge Royal Mint. I have a similar dislike of their tactics, which is why I gave them no quarter when I phoned them. Despite them claiming not to have any record of me on their system, it is obvious I am somewhere. I have told them to check their call logs from today and delete it or else. It is sickening to see them offering things like Victoria jubilee head sovereigns, random date and grade, for £795. Only those who have no idea what they are buying would fall for such "deals".

    I agree.
Perhaps convert 2 bars into 32 x 1 oz coins. That's your permastack for the grandkids, put into storage.
The other bar convert into sovereigns. It should buy you 60+ if my brain is in gear? These you can keep at home, just three tubes to be hidden around the house somewhere.
Ultimate flexibility. if you need some extra cash, perhaps fancy a boat or a foreign holiday or your kids get in strife you can release the funds very quickly (advertise them on here at spot and they'll sell within the hour, money in your account immediately). There will be greater interest in older sovereigns than modern shiny ones, however.
The conversion percentages are an example and up to your own discretion of course. It's always fun to make plans with other people's money
Good luck whatever you decide 👍

You should be able to get lower premiums on one ounce gold coins than on half ounce ones, and lower prices on "generic" gold sovereigns rather than on new ones.
To repeat my main advice: if you are investing in gold, try to buy at the lowest (percentage) premium within reason.

I think Lawrence has offered good advice, and perhaps a lifebelt Pete?
It wouldn't hurt to have a chat or if you're a man of leisure like me, perhaps a day trip to discuss in depth and enjoy some tat, cockles and rock.

It's the price us physical stackers have to pay, I'm afraid.
I could have had a paper contract in my wallet or a ledger in my backpack but transporting silver (money) across borders requires the art of concealment.
It's something I had to probe deeply, indeed it's a sensitive area for many, but I got a certain amount of pleasure from it.

Not everyone is as lucky as Roy with his humungous orifice but It does happen!
Customs take you to the back room and tell you to undress. Then make you squat with your left arm outstretched. They yank your arm down fast and watch you drop everything like a Friday night pub fruit machine that’s been won just before closing time by the cheeky bastard who’s been watching every Tom, **** and harry who's been putting there wages in all day! Don’t be Tom, **** or Harry! Or possibly Jisaad for that matter. 👍
