It's almost like folk are embarrassed to be asking such a price!
'£1650 for a Brit? They'll never pay that!'
Look at what the dealers are asking, and work from there 👍

You are right in that ‘spot price’ is what everyone fixates on.
Its no different to shopping in the supermarket, it’s what the buyer perceives to be either a bargain, an acceptable price or being ripped off.
Maybe the supermarket example wasn’t a good one with end of aisle (rip off’s) promotions but you get what I mean.
It all comes down to what you perceive as a ‘good deal’ as a buyer.
I think many on the forum are holding their breath because we don’t know where the gold price will go next.
    Only time will tell.
On a side note, speaking of supermarkets, ALWAYS look at the price per grams when shopping. Sometimes you’ve got to buy more to save more.

Have you not looked at the ‘for sale’ thread of the forum recently?
    I beg to differ.
1oz gold Britannias at or less than spot.
Sovereigns at spot or less than spot.
There is clearly a huge shift happening and it’s happening now.
I can honestly say that having been a member of this forum for five years I’ve never seen a time like this.
    Cobblers you say?
    I think not.

It just creates a 'new normal' gold didn't actually do anything. It didn't go up or down, it was a pet rock
The purchasing power in your chosen fiat currency went up/down against gold, the borrowing or liabilities/debts of your fiat nocurrency went up/down. The prospect of conflict/invasion/war occured
    Again gold didn't do nothing
If you think things are not going to be getting better in the next 5-10years plus just buy more 'pet rocks' at whatever market rate is.
Is the guy who stopped stacking in the 70s cos sovereigns went from £4 to £4.10 thinking ? I should have maybe kept stacking?? Some x100 the price later

Certain people trade by certain levels of trading feedback, it is noteworthy that I go but the rule if the seller has less than 20 positive feedback I would ask them to post the item then accept payment upon receipt. If you are new and you dont have buying selling trading feedback you can use a seasoned trader or forum sponsor like @BackyardBullion as intermediary service. But that not withstanding I am sure there other seasoned traders would help out. Note also the interactions of a unseasoned member, if they are just pure selling and not interacting too much can raise flags without much feedback.

The way the forum community have come together in support of @bestg77 is refreshing to see and I expected nothing less from this forum.
Unfortunately there will always be a dishonest few and if I had to say what I thought of them I’d most likely be banned.
I hope this is resolved for you, one way or another.
Please try not to let this put you off your PM journey, the good far outweigh the bad here.

I remember in the early days of social media, I think it was Myspace back then a mate of mine got screwed over on Ebay for about £300, the girl that did it laughed at him basically saying what are you going to do about it.  Well within days he got her entire life off her social media pages and he knew everything about her, her name, where she lived, where she worked and what she did and what car she drove.  He waited and he waited and one day Rangers are playing away to Man Utd in the Champions League and we are all getting bussed down to the match and he insists we make a detour on the way back up the road to sort out this girl.
I can't remember where exactly it was she lived as we were all very drunk but I do remember she was a fitness instructor and drove a Fiat Uno which a bus load of pissed up Rangers fans threw in a canal.

This is TL:DR - feel free to ignore 🤗
I find it scandalous people who are paid to write articles on financial news and investments are no more reliable than sports writers who just make stuff up for clickbait
The trading day (Monday) hasn't yet closed. We are currently down 0.15% and I wouldn't be surprised if we finish at 0.0% or up 0.15%. A nothing burger, as our American cousins might say
Look at the headlines from all over the world as well as here on TSF. We're reacting to nothing or else making commentaries based on intraday price action. Unless you are a day trader focused on abstract technical analysis the intraday movements are just noise
To answer your question, a bunch of the resistance points above $1950/£1607 have now turned into supports. It's easier to do a screenshot so you can see for yourself - it's unlikely we retrace $1970, $1960, $1950, with each of those becoming progressively less likely

Sorry TL:DR but interest rates have barely changed since gold was last trading in this band ($1950-2050 in May 2023) yet we lost a full 10% from $2050 to $1845 with a low of $1810ish (October 2023). Based on what? The CBs came out with their higher for longer mantra and this was contrary to some market expectations of a more pronounced peak and trough in CB rates, but actually the rate (5.25-5.5%) remained unchanged since July and is up only 0.25% since May, while gold lost 10%. The Israel-Hamas situation/Geopolitics is almost exclusively responsible for gold taking back most of the 10% it lost due to the Fed/BoE/ECB "higher for longer" guidance
I confess it doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. I understand higher for longer means you can pour money into bonds and cash-like equivalents with less of a risk that you miss your opportunity to buy the dip (in stocks and risk-on assets), but it's hard to reconcile interest rates being unchanged having such a profound effect on gold prices
When gold was > $2,000 it was still undervalued and shouldn't have dropped. If we assume the geopolitical reasons (war, etc) for gold appreciating lately are valid then gold should be at the nominal USD ATH + the recent rally, which would still leave gold lagging behind recent inflationary pressures. In other currencies like AUD and JPY, gold is currently at or close to the ATH. If we remember our old-world mantra, then JPY is a safe haven asset, it shouldn't be, but it is. Recently gold briefly set a new ATH in GBP, the outlier is USD, with USD counter-intuitively strengthening against every other currency. Joe Biden is still in charge. The US deficit is rising faster than ever. There is a fiscal cliff. There is borderline civil war in the states
Apologies again, TL:DR, but it's Bread and Circuses (panem et circenses). Towards the fall of the Roman Empire (western) we saw the same thing - the Colosseum running for months on end, the plebs being given wine and bread. Today we have the masses obsessed with social media, movies and famous personalities, with YouTubers in boxing matches, freak matchups like Ngannou vs Fury, the UFC is more popular than ever (I love UFC btw, UFC 294 was insane with Usman vs Chimaev and Volk vs Makhachev). There are handouts left, right and centre. Our doctors are giving out extremely powerful medications like they are Smarties. Drugs have been decriminalised in some advanced economies and some drugs have been legalised in other jurisdictions. Once enviable regions of the world like the US west coast, California in particular, and Canada, I don't have words to describe what has happened there and how sad it makes me. I visited those places in the 90s and they were akin to paradise. Relaxed, plentiful, harmonious. Now look at them
The central authorities are using the tired old Bread and Circuses technique while they debase the currency and enslave the population. The guy with his government handouts, fast food delivered to his door, alcohol, weed and prescription meds is totally set in his mind, he has what he wants, why should he be concerned about what's happening to our world?
