Well you do so according to your appetite for risk.

Can't see myself attending any of these Silver Forum meet ups then. Go anywhere near those doughnuts and lose 8 pints of blood.

Apologies @goldmember44 but I'm just catching up with this month's thread posts having not been on the forum again until yesterday. I must do better.
The difference in my opinion between the silver Una and the 2016 silver Peter Rabbit is that their broad appeal lies with 2 different types of coin enthusiasts. Silver Una mainly appeals to numismatic collectors prepared to pay a hefty £180 for a 2 ounce coin at launch. Silver Peter appealed to the new breed of novelty coin enthusiasts who were happy to pay £55 or thereabouts for that first must have coloured 50p coin, possibly as a child's gift, having read about its release in the tabloids.
Of course there's also the established collectors and the flippers who also got in on the act. However, silver Peter 2016 appealed to the masses - mums, dads, sons and daughters - and due to the reasonably low mintage masses also missed out. Massive demand and little supply means silver 2016 Peter commands such a huge price for a 1 ounce coin on the secondary market.
I don't think silver Una can match anywhere near that level of mass appeal, though if it gets within sight of Peter, the lion will have the rabbit for breakfast.

People taking an interest in the price of a new coin and recognising a lot of dodgy bidding isn't envy. Some of the people commenting on the fishy goings on actually own the coin so it cant be assumed everyone is envious.
Its also not disbelief it could sell for £20000, not for me anyways. Thats actually why im surprised theres been this kind of thing. I understand why someone who owns the coin might not want any criticism at all of an auction with a high sale price even when it was shill bidded greatly because they worry it might effect their own sale...but its a bit disingenuous to criticise others who mention it. The discussion cannot be only mention good things. If you own the coin there is no reason to be so defensive the coin is clearly going to be a great profit, unless its your auction then why worry that there are people highlighting dodgy bidding on a coin thread about that coin. The discussion turned to looking at the auctions and that was what happened and was why it was discussed.

A real shame to suspect shill bidding on this. I'm sure we all expect this happens on ebay and Youtube all the time, sad to say, but it's not like this coin 'needs' it
I was thinking about this the other day and that if I had one I would have it up already for £30k (best offer). But very easy for me to say as I don't, so please don't listen to me and I am certainly not recommending any course of action!
He used to be a member here, he very much knows his onions and certainly doesn't hold back when he has a strong point of view (which is usually!). Better to be a cynic than lose a lot of money in my book. I don't always agree with him, and reasonably often strongly disagree, but I find his opinions very useful in that he challenges my own to the point where I really have to be sure about an expensive coin. It goes without saying, but is worth repeating I think, that it's not monopoly money we are playing with here!

I think it all depends on your definition of “success”.
Sure, the Royal Mint managed to sell some 225 nice looking gold coins in a couple of hours, and the owners of these coins will be very happy especially seeing the current resale prices.
However, I am sure there are quite a number of other people that are just baffled as to why the Royal Mint did not produce a gold 1oz version, or a quintuple sovereign sized version – I think these would have been nearer the size of the original coin (though I stand to be corrected on this).  I think these would have been even more popular (though the % increase in price in the secondary market may not have been as high).

thanks @Melon  Im just following things with Gold Una so closely because i have a vested interest in it as i own one
Even using eBay as a guide may not be the best
It is the price achieved from a specialist coin auctions Dix Noonan Webb / Heritage / Baldwins / or Spink to see what they go for, will be a far more reliable guide price of future value, as all sales results are then set in stone as price paid. eBay sales price will be lost to the trapping of time as listings delete after a few months
At present most Gold Unas will probably reside in UK.  Who knows what their appeal may be to the wealthy in USA, far east markets or Russian mega loaded stackers

To those collectors who picked up a gold one, my heartiest congratulations. It will hopefully bring you years of satisfaction and joy (and a few quid !) to have in a collection.
I just ordered a silver one from The Coin Connection to ensure there was quality control beyond the Royal Mint before receiving. A very nice lady replied to an enquiry I had in very quick time and replied that they would be shipping out (those coins that get past their quality control) sometime in January.
Clearly, the gold proof is THE coin to have but it will be lovely to own a "consolation prize" silver one to enjoy in the years to come. I do not think the silver will make any money on any resale other than maybe 100 years in the future and by then, who cares ?
However, it is a recognised classically beautiful design and will bring great joy to its owners. I thought I was done with modern silver proofs but this technically intricate and soft proof finish design remake was a "had to have" just like it is for many here.
And now, I better go and say something similar to my wife !🤣

You are right it is all speculation at the moment - who knows where it will settle in price. Im just happy to have one and  happy with the price of £4k
But factors in its favour are, when the original issue of the coin has more than double the mintage - has 140+ years history & sales with it - the design is extacly the same - and the original issue coin sold for for around £300,000+ a few years back

Open question - how has this been established as the flagship modern gold coin of it's time? Seems a jump given it's been out like a week and hardly anyone owns it.
I hope people don't get carried away in a wave of speculation. Sounds like lots of coins while sold haven't actually been sent out yet and therefore haven't hit the market, and also sounds like a fair amount of speculation on this being the next 'series to have'. I don't doubt peoples money is safe on this one at RRP, but I wouldn't want to be the first person to go and pay double RRP on it to be honest. People can ask whatever price they want, do we have evidence of people actively buying at these high numbers?
Context - I know literally nothing about numismatics so I may be talking utter nonsense 😂 Just seems odd to me that someone can produce a coin today, say it's limited to 225, and suddenly it's not only selling at double spot price retail, but also then reselling allegedly for 4-6 times spot! 😮

I think this this is your key point here.
Not just for the elite- anyone with a credit card in hand could of pulled the trigger- if they were quick enough- and (now in hindsight) could have flipped and made a quick buck.
I did seriously consider purchasing- but I would have had to flip a few coins to fund it.  It was a stick or twist for me- I chose to stick with multiple beautiful coins rather than one thing of beauty.
This was a brave purchase for some- and well done to those who bit the bullet.

It's literally worth its weight in gold (or in silver - depending on whatever one you're after). Dealers won't pay you extra for proofs. They're just interested in the gold content. Apart from that, it's worth whatever somebody such as a highest bidder collector is willing to pay for it.
Do your homework by keeping an eye on what they sell for on the secondary market (if they show up on it). That's how much collectors will be willing to buy them for, not the prices some unscrupulous companies try to sell them for.

Too late. You've just done it. Una should be put to bed now to enjoy what exclusivity she's got left. Let's hope that the Mint steer clear of a mass produced BU version - something they couldn't resist when it came to the 2019 Kew Gardens 50p coin.
The danger being that they do like returning to best sellers.

This is what I thought - and it is what happened to me most recently with the SOTD Albert Sovereign (note that I received the coin and they took payment about a week later!). However, on this occasion the money was returned as a 'refund' rather than just arriving back into the account when the hold was released.
I have raised this with the Mint who have confirmed that the account is clear and that no further charges are pending. They said that according to their accounts dept. the coin has been paid for and no money will be taken.
    They are double checking it.
Beginning to wish I had also ordered the gold version.........

I've had that happen a few times when ordering on my card and waiting a while before shipment. The transaction falls off my bank account after some days, automatically, but then their accounts department then books the amount permanently later when they receive notification that the item has been shipped. The money they take initially is just a temporary hold on the card to ensure you can pay for it.

Yes, well, I had a conversation with someone who said that I was mad to not add one to the investment portfolio whilst I still could. I take their views sensibly and whilst it was a bucket of cash, I figured it was also a better investment than I first though.
Remarkably, the Royal Mint sent mine out yesterday and then returned my £180.00 this morning. Because I am responsible, I have contacted them to review this...I was told a few hours ago that my account is clear and I do not owe them anything. Bizarre, but true. I’m waiting for the money to leave the account again........surely only a matter of time!!!
