It's just lazy coin design
Reusing the same design as 2018
Could have done so much with it, but it's just mediocre at best.
It's so bad I don't even want to do a video on it as even bad press can help. Now I think about it maybe The Royal Mints marketing strategy is "piss everyone off and they will blow up social media"

They should have copied this original, sculpted by Charles Grassby and situated just around the corner from where I live. I think the lance has been broken off. Impressive.

Absolutely shocking. I mean I was p’d off with the latest myths and legends design. Then came the generic lion and eagle coin and now this fugly wtf moment of a design.
Really upsetting to see RM releases and designs getting worse and not better.
George in the helmet looks like a generic cartoon character sketch from the early 90s that didn’t make the “final cut”.
I don’t like being distasteful towards RM coin designs or the mint itself but I haven’t seen anything decent from them that I would deem “special” in a very long time.
Sticking to old sovs, some 1oz bullion coins and selective proofs. None of the recent new series are exciting or interesting imo. Sadly more horrendous design decisions that get approved. 😔
Britannia x Liberty my favourite coin so far this year. ✅

I am so far gone from the Mint that I didn’t even know about this coin.
Serious question. How can we go from a vibrant and limited number of great new designs to this mess? I recently looked at the mintage details page on the Mint’s site and it really hits you when you look at the difference between 2009 (for example) and 2020. The vast number of different designs and tat that is now being sold compared to previous years is shocking.
It’s gone from a decent industry and design house market place to a discount perfume shop on Oxford Street.

Who is signing off on this c**p? The mint have seriously lost their way recently and it just keeps getting worse.

Of course they have put the estimates high, they have to pay for the exec bonus scheme whilst cancelling the general profit share for all regular employees. And yes, this is an actual thing I have been told about the royal mint recently... surprise surprise there are some disgruntled employees.
It's just blatant opportunistic money grabbing, hoping some poor sap wants it so overpays for it.

I am not surprised.
886 is the brainchild of Anne Jessop and shes got to earn that £500k Pay packet per annum remember.
Their level of complete ineptitude is exemplified by their inability to put the right description on a BRITANNIA 958 image of a silver pendant but call it STERLING in the title.

That’s why it didn’t last very long! Known as ‘barmaids ruin/grief’ due to the crown and florin getting mixed up🤔😮

Magritte reacted to Britannia47 in An interesting fact - the double florin
I’m late to the party again! but here’s a size comparison photo between the double florin and the Crown - easy to get them mixed up. Reflecting on numismatic Victorian .925 Silver is a welcome change from the often chaotic mayhem that is modern gold sovereign collecting….

Buy UK legal tender coins - no CGT. Gold is better than silver because there is no VAT on UK gold Sterling denominations. Write it all down explaining what you have, and place your writings in with your will. Explain that if you pop your clogs, there exists a store of wealth which might need to be sold, and if it needs to be sold, a little bit of research would need to be done regarding special years for sovereigns, the difference between bullion and proof coins, factors which affect spot price of gold and silver, etc etc, and if all else fails, and as a last resort if the family can't deal with it, then instruct them to shove it in the boot and take a drive to Chards in Blackpool, or your alternative preferred dealer, who will buy it for probably less than spot, but at least the family will be able to free up the much needed cash when the time comes..
