Just noticed on APMEX (USA), they're now selling the 1/4, 1/2, Whole Proof Sovereigns and the 3 and 5 coin sets.
Can't figure out exactly when this started but probably in the past 1-3 days if I'm guessing. That's annoying, they have just refunded me for one of mine instead of sending a replacement. I am presuming that if I now send back this other damaged one I will not get a replacement for it either. Poor show from the royal mint in my opinion.

I also spotted that the full sovereign proof had sold out at the Royal Mint yesterday. With such a high mintage I was pleasantly surprised and hopefully it shows that the market is still quite strong. It will be interesting to see the prices for PF70s on the secondary market when they come back from grading in a couple of months. Although the Coronation sovereign is very historic and will definitely remain part of my collection I still prefer the design of the memorial sovereign which remains one of my all time favourites.
If the quality of them all are the same as the quarters I've had I doubt many will gain a PF70.

Wow, what's wrong with it? I had one with a strike through.
Dirty marks almost looks like milk spots on the obverse and a tiny tiny scratch on the reverse. @paulmertonWhat is a strike through?

I have received one of my replacement Quarter sovereigns, and again, I am going to have to send it back. What is going on? I'm really not impressed with the quality control at Royal Mint. Hopefully, the replacement for the 2nd one comes back OK.

I will have the carpathian, white horse also, please and thank you.

To be honest QC doesn’t exist at RM.
Due to poor quality products I have stopped buying proof coins from RM. Graded proofs is the only way for me from now on.That's a shame, though. We should all be getting a near perfect piece. Thats the whole point of tge proof. They should be made accountable.

These sorts of problems are not new and I really haven't seen any commitment to improving anything. Receiving replacements that are also poor quality is also still happening.
Hopefully my replacements won't be damaged 🤞

Has the quality control always been this poor in regards to proof coins from directly from main mints, i.e., Royal mint? Or is it because they have been changing design so much of late?
I have recently received 2 of the new KCII proof quarter sovereigns, both of which have now had to be sent back for replacement because of damage to the coins.
Both were scratched and marked and, in general, not what you would expect for a premium product.
I had a similar experience when ordering the IOM coronation coin from another mint. That went back for a refund.
These have been my first experiences with buying proof coins, and I'm not too impressed.
If you're after the best quality, It seems better to wait a while and buy a graded proof, once, other other people have filtered out the best of the bunch.

I have the 2oz twin maple but didnt know they did a multi maple.
3 minutes ago, Stuh said:Never seen these before either (I don't get out much to be fair). Just curious - are they the same diameter as the 1oz maples and a bit thicker, or are they a larger diameter?
The 2oz is but thicker, so would assume these are too.

If those marks are on the coin then it's a bullion coin, I'd return it.
I have sent it back, hopefully the replacement will be in better shape.
