    Hello,
I am new to this forum and am interested in reselling and collecting mainly silver because my budget is just over a grand. I discovered this forum from backyard bullion and would be grateful in anyone had any youtube recommendations and recommendations on what to buy for my first bit of silver.
    Thanks,

I know it is a long shot. But does anyone wanting to exchange their gold coin (Brit, Krug, Sovereign or any major coins in bullion conditions/low premium proof,  1/4 oz to 1 oz size) with some handsome young Benjamin here?  Above the spot price (XAU/USD), up to $2150/oz offered, depending on your coin!!
Just moved back from Yankee land, done with green note, rule Britannia🇬🇧
    Cheers

    Yes, I did.
Not interested in a silver sovereign.
Not interested in a 12 sided coin.
    Not interested in different purity.
    etc, etc.
Much prefer ‘old’ yellow gold to ‘new’ rose gold.
Comment: I won’t be buying any proof / SOTD sovereign until premiums come down significantly.

I have bought from new members. most I have paid on receipt but a couple of times I have taken the chance, both times the member had purchased a paid membership and had been vouched for by an established member I trusted
I have also bought from someone with very low feedback and paid up front as they had been a paid member on here a long time and were active but had just never sold

Tbh I wouldn't buy from a spanking new member unless they posted first. I would expect this as it's how I started. I've posted when I had no feedback, I've also done it with over 700 feedback to prove it works. I'd still have no problem doing it again tomorrow ( obviously as long as the buyer is an established member) it works and works well. I understand that seller's can be nervous, but it's very easy to check the buyer's feedback for peace of mind.

So this is a question to the old hats here regarding buying on the forum.
So far I have only bought off those that have been members for some time and have a good history of trading feedback.
Whats everyone’s opinion on a new member selling after only posting a couple of posts and with zero trading history buying or selling?
what happens if it all goes wrong? Is it money down the drain and lessons learnt or have we got some form of clawback when a sale goes wrong?
No shade intended on any current sales but it is something I have given some thought against.

A sovereign is 0.2354 oz of gold and GBP spot is £1,625.48.
So there is 0.2354 x £1625,48 worth of gold at spot price - £382.63.
If we flex that up 3% that is £394.12
Is somewhere between £382.63 and £394.12 the right price for a sovereign?
Well that sounds like an ok price. Would i pay more? Yes of course i would. Would i sometimes be reluctant to pay £382.63? Yes i might well not want to even pay spot.
What is the sovereign? What is the condition? What does my experience in this coin tell me? What is the collector value?
i am more than happy to pay over £400 for a sovereign if it is in good condition - especially if it is a proof i may well pay quite a bit more. i would rather pay a few quid more than buy a dog shlt coin that will never be worth more than spot. So why not pay spot for the kicked around coin? It is opportunity cost. If i had paid a bit more i could have had the opportunity to get a nice coin and now i have spent my money on a bad coin.
So the 3% can only be a very rough guide. Personally i would rather go for a better coin. i would rather go for something that has collector value in it. Not crazy premiums but collector premium and collector potential - this is where skill and experience comes in. You need an eye for the condition, the mintage, the market. Look at what is coming up on the forum - look at all the coins. See how quickly coins sell. You just get to know when a coin is underpriced and you have got to be quick if you want it or it will be gone. Always remember all your coins and bars will one day be sold - even if it isn't by you unless you have them put them in your coffin and then you get cremated. Those coins and bars are only as valuable as what the next man is prepared to pay. You can only get a feel for that by looking at the forum, dealer sites, price comparsion sites, ebay and so on. What James has said will point you in the right direction but there is a lot of fine tuning on top of that.

£5 2012 is roughly going to cost £5500-£6000, personally If holding longterm..I'd grab a £5 memorial for under £3200 and lock it away. Arguably a far nicer coin imho.
I just think all the profit is already sucked out of the 2012

Was editing a blank version of the spread sheet I use to track my stack for another member and thought it would be useful to share to see if anyone else could use it
I also thought other members may have something similar or better others could make use of.

This will allow you to add your coins in, enter price paid and the premium you believe they should be worth (currently all set to 5%).  If you then update spot it will work out their current value and your profit/loss on current prices.  You can add in new rows and the calculations will pick them up, but always add to the middle of a section not the first or last row.  If you do not have any of a particular type you can just delete the rows from both the top and the body of the spreadsheet and it should keep on working.  Its not super complex and the formula's are pretty easy to follow if you wanted to add in any different types, but I am always happy to help out a fellow member if they are not very IT literate or cannot follow what I have done.  No guarantee I have got everything 100% but I am happy to update and re-attach to this thread should anyone find a bug, or if others with more IT skills than I can make improvements even better

Will depend on your stacking goals and your exit strategy
If all you plan is to accumulate as much weight as you can and sell to a dealer as part of your retirement plan, stack the lowest premium coins you can get.  Over time you may find you have a preference for a certain portrait or gravitate towards special reverse.  Lots of people will try and put together date runs of coins which can make stacking more enjoyable but you risk ending up paying a premium for lower mintage years.
If you plan to sell privately I would say stack what you think is going to be popular in the future.  I do this and 75-80% off my stack is pre-1887 sovereigns.  This of course is an assumption on my part that age will add value over time.  An argument could be made those moderns people turn their noses up now could well become the popular coins with future stackers, the mintage numbers are certainly lower.
I also park money in Gold apart from my longer term stack and for that I tend to buy moderns, special reverse mostly (2002/2005/2012/2022/2022/2023) and these I sell when I need money.  I find these sell very quickly when priced right.  I also try and keep 10% of my stack in premium coins, proof and graded.  This is a hedge against market trends.  If I need to sell and bullion is going for low premiums or is hard to sell at the time it is often the case the graded or proof market will still be buoyant.
Last bit of advise, keep detailed records.  Date, seller, price paid, what price spot was at the time, as much as you can.  Take a picture of everything you buy and keep it.  Also keep a record of your stack with approximate values.  I have a spreadsheet for this that you can add coins to and an estimate of the premium it would currently command.  You just add the current spot price, details of the coin and the premium and it will tell you everything you need to know, I will attach a blank copy here for you to have a play with.  It is only set up for full and half sovereigns at the moment but it can quite easily be tailored for other coins.  If you do use it when you add a row, do it in the middle of a section otherwise if upsets the calculations
