As a newcomer to the world of gold, silver stacking, investment etc, this thread has been of huge interest and benefit, particularly the early posts, I have read pretty much all the posts and they beat books and articles for "educating" us beginners! so thanks to all who participated - good work!

I think it's natural on the forum for people not to wish to buy after a period of rises.  But once things have stabilised in the paper markets, the physical prices will creep up to align as people begin to accept a new normal.  Joe public is mostly completely oblivious to this forum.  Members here are savvy buyers, many don't wish to buy at ATH, but that'll change again if this rise in price becomes the new normal.  It always has.
When there are drops in the paper price, the physical price tends to remain stubbornly high for a bit, until sellers are forced to revisit their price after a failure to make a sale.  In short, it's normal.

I think the challenge just now is the lack of belief the spot price will hold at these highs, recently we have seen big moves up and down so it's hard to buy when you expect the price to drop.
I have noticed that some previous high premium coins like queens beasts are up at these prices too, damn near spot so if you believe these prices are the new normal you could do well.
On the flip side recently I've been paying more attention to proofs which are really getting hit. Prices aren't rising in line with spot and if your struggling to buy bullion then proofs are out the question so there are bargains to be had and the rising spot only makes the proof prices more appealing.
May have a bit to go before I can call the pf69 gold 3 graces in the graded section of the marketplace I've been drooling over a bargain but I live in hope

You are right in that ‘spot price’ is what everyone fixates on.
Its no different to shopping in the supermarket, it’s what the buyer perceives to be either a bargain, an acceptable price or being ripped off.
Maybe the supermarket example wasn’t a good one with end of aisle (rip off’s) promotions but you get what I mean.
It all comes down to what you perceive as a ‘good deal’ as a buyer.
I think many on the forum are holding their breath because we don’t know where the gold price will go next.
    Only time will tell.
On a side note, speaking of supermarkets, ALWAYS look at the price per grams when shopping. Sometimes you’ve got to buy more to save more.

It just creates a 'new normal' gold didn't actually do anything. It didn't go up or down, it was a pet rock
The purchasing power in your chosen fiat currency went up/down against gold, the borrowing or liabilities/debts of your fiat nocurrency went up/down. The prospect of conflict/invasion/war occured
    Again gold didn't do nothing
If you think things are not going to be getting better in the next 5-10years plus just buy more 'pet rocks' at whatever market rate is.
Is the guy who stopped stacking in the 70s cos sovereigns went from £4 to £4.10 thinking ? I should have maybe kept stacking?? Some x100 the price later

All a big load of tosh, I've seen many statements made and markets do the opposite, one small thing we can agree on as a collective...the world is a mess and fortunately or unfortunately that's a catalyst for gold.

So true, I scratch my head reading some of the posts on this thread and wonder who has enough gold to devote so much time to studying markets and charts.
I too just like shiny designs and hope my gold doesn't lose value.
Fair play to the guys who go deep following the market super close but I just don't really understand why. Still, to each their own.

    Exactly this mate. Why indeed?
Most of the volume buyers on the forum are the same as the volume sellers - different steps on the same reseller ladder. The end user stackers are those who buy conservative amounts and never sell
It's mega undervalued but not as much as silver 😁
I think we're in danger of blowing through resistance and setting a real price for gold closer to $3000 than $2000. Should we be happy? No. The regular people will get burnt alive when this makes the front pages
Consider this. Most of us are pretty stupid but the gen pop and the younger folks are even stupider still. Of those utter muppets, 10% or more in the UK own crypto, in some demographics it's much higher than that. There's a similar story in the USA, 10%+ own some crypto. Compare that to physical gold and silver. The USA is a fraction over 1% and the UK is slightly lower than that, perhaps even less than 1% own physical. What happens to the price of gold and silver if this becomes a mainstream saga? We're going to airmail ATHs and we'll do so by such a margin (an order of magnitude) that we'll never get back there. Oh great you sold at the ATH, congrats, now try and buy it back again
Everybody is excited in here today and the buy/sell is on fire, there's so much going on it's impossible to keep pace. Here's some figures though to contextualise the "real ATH":

Let's assume those charts and the 'Fast Fact' (which are from different sources) have descriptive and predictive power. It seems to line up nicely, right? We're about 2/3rds off the real ATH adjusted for CPI and during the last Great Depression gold went up by 2/3rds. Hmm. Might we be entering an Even Greater Depression? I honestly believe we are, at least for the masses and the ordinary person. The rich are set but us plebs are being roasted alive while our governments and financial systems drown in unsustainable levels of debt, debt that can only be managed by inflation, war or both
Taking some profit is never a bad idea and for those selling gold, congratulations if you have booked a profit. Truly though gold is only for buying, not for selling unless your hand is forced. We get excited about nominal ATHs, daily, weekly or monthly chart movements but we need to keep an eye on the big picture which screams unequivocally that gold and silver are hugely undervalued
Sorry for the TL:DR, lots of interesting comments in this thread today. Anyway, I don't believe we're at an ATH. Economics is not absolute, it's relative, and relatively speaking (aka in REAL terms), we're miles away from the ATH, a minimum +25% if not +67% from today's price. Saying gold is at an ATH is like saying wages are at an ATH. That might be true in nominal terms but in the terms that matter - REAL terms - the average person in this country can't remember a time they were this poor.
