You managed to fill my entire, large, screen with the double-spacing.

Best to just shop around, and be patient.

I am not supposed to self-promote, but this does happen to be a good deal at the moment:

I would expect them to sell out before the "Ends" date.

    🙂

Well, I'll buy it just because it's actually Britannia silver :)

  2. Small update: shipping is delayed for some reason, turns out RM really did not have them in stock - the coin was supposed to reach me last week, but they will start dispatching them this week.

Gotta wait for your Peter Rabbit fix folks!

  3. So, I actually went forth and ordered the silver proof ( the coloured one inside perspex) 10 mins ago.

From the pictures, it does look good - I was looking to get an older 50p one, but then got this one because it's larger (and arguably more value for money - I'm paying 100 for a 1oz coin, opposed to a 60ish for an 8 gm coin).

Remind me to post some pictures once it arrives! Royal mint says that it's still awaiting stock, so I hope I do get it at some point....

Also, there is no such thing as too much Peter Rabbit stuff :D, I've been collecting Peter Rabbit stuff since I was a kid...

  4. The watchdog agreed that the thing was misleading, the guy did not get anything I believe and Brewdog started a new campaign called The Sequel: A Gold Plated Apology......

Though I'll add that the T and C of the original competition do seem to mention an alternative prize of 10000 pounds worth of shares and a VIP tour....

  5. I was reading an excellent article on Chard's website, where there was table showing the variation in the composition of Sovereigns over several years - starting from around 4% of silver and the rest copper in the initial coins, whereas gradually the composition has changed to 80ish parts out of 1000 consist of copper ( and the rest gold). I am also aware of the Swiss Mint releasing gold coins last year, with a 90 Au, 6 Ag ( and rest Cu) alloy ( Swiss mint products always seem to be sold out, would appreciate a link to a seller too).

My question is - did the Royal Mint remove the silver content to improve the 'durability' of the coin as the coins would be in circulation, or is it merely a cost cutting measure ?

This was a real serious sentence. Both series are not current. Lunar I do command a high collector's premium, Lunar II are better on that, but the half kilos are few. The Lunar I I can find are at a 250% premium at least, the Lunar II start at 50% but go up quickly to 100%, depending on the dealer...

As been stated, half kilos are the odd one out coin size (the current Lunar III series doesn't even have them anymore). Let us maybe take a step back and ask what do you want them for? Do you want half a kilo of silver? Do you want a sought after collector's piece? And why would you want a coin at that weight? Collectibility? Then stay with one kilos, as half kilos are no standard size and will always be more expensive. What about 10 ouncers?

Personal opinion: everything above one or two ounces is not coin worthy to me. Anything above I would buy as bars (preferably cast) - stacker's perspective.

Ah, the premiums are too high, I might stick with 10oz then ( I'm bored with 10oz though since most QB 10oz are out of stock in most places, and I don't want a 10oz Britannia) maybe 1kg is the way to go
