SlowFrog reacted to paulmerton in GOLD DEALS - (UK & Europe) See a deal, post it here
Very rude of them to not send me #1 when I ordered first and then helped them sell out
On a serious note though, I don't think a #1 is worth any more than the others in the context of the Trial of the Pyx (I consider myself non biased as I also have a #1 (different coin obviously!)). There are at most 10 of each coin and the numbering is arbitrary (merely to uniquely identify them) and doesn't relate to order of mintage - all of the coins were mixed in the same paper envelope at some point.
On the other hand, I still regret not just buying them all myself 🤣

you are numero uno….of 8 of an unissued U.K. coin as far as I can tell. I cannot find a reference for any others.

I’ve always maintained that coin grading is a business based off of a non-existent problem that was fabricated to create a solution.
A coin AUTHENTICATION service makes sense.
Grading is not a science or fact - it will always be a grey area, and as we’ve seen, companies that have a duopoly can come up with anything they want.
Brilliant Proof, Gem Proof, Gem Uncirculated, Brilliant Uncirculated, star, cameo, ultra cameo.
Not to mention designations like First Releases (as if that makes any difference to a coin’s quality!)
Or special labels.
Novelties.
You can see how it’s a business model that’s gone well beyond its purpose and nicely suckered people in. 🙂

Yeah; but I think the point is in their description of the product (as posted above) they describe it as "Housed in a display holder which features a handwritten signature by Anne Jessopp.."
That would suggest actually handwritten; like when they sold the Martin Jennings graded and signed pieces (that were actually hand signed)

Stand down everybody, I was spreading bad information. Was something else entirely that I was being sent. No sign of this one yet. Sorry for the false alarm 👍🏼

SlowFrog reacted to AppleZippoandMetronome in Is now a good time to sell on TSF?
In the 6 or 7 years I've been around here and really been paying attention to the gold/silver prices I've found that stuff priced well will always sell. A lot of coins that would traditionally have a higher premium (not talking mega collectable stuff here just premiums that are higher than normal - stuff like normal proofs, the QBs mentioned, slightly special sovs, etc) tend to look more attractable as the gold price rises because it often takes a bit for the premium to catch up to the live gold price. I've bought a lot of coins like this during these gold runs over the last 4 or 5 years. Arguable whether it matters long term but when the premium shrinks it feels like you got a good deal especially when those premiums eventually do catch up to the live price once things settle.

That would be me....
In our little poll Wednesday, only myself and Paul dared to imagine that it would be Up, by the end of this week. The rest who committed were Neutral, with only one calling it Down... And then of course there's James who voted twice... but as promised, he voted Neutral and didn't win... To be fair, there's still time for it to lose £50 by the close, but I'll take a double or nothing on that one...

~£800 for me and then really stupidly didn't buy another for several years. I hate thinking about it. The next time I purchased was around £1260.
