Not to discourage you from collecting, but you mean this one?

Those ones you can buy them at spot price, testing the silver content should be enough. Also it has written on it “Copy” 😂
I understand the market is full of fakes, that’s why I want to know opinions about this kind of investment to those who are more experienced.
btw Ali express will never stop impressing me 😂. I wonder if when you buy them they really have the word “copy” on the coin or it’s just for the image.

It’s been a couple of years that I have been stacking bullion, I started getting different coin designs but as it was getting too expensive due to those crazy premiums I end up just purchasing britanias, philarmonics or whatever was cheaper in the store, and this was making it quite boring.
However, recently I came across with pre 1947 coins and I’m loving them so much that I decided to start my own collection; at least one of each coin  from each King/Queen of the United Kingdom in a decent condition.
Soon I realised I would find some restrictions; some of the coins are very expensive and I won’t make the whole collection.
What are your recommendations when buying this pieces?
    1. eBay seems to have more, before buying I check the seller rating and I only buy from the best rated ones to avoid fake ones. I believe there are only fake ones in between the most expensive ones, so far I don’t think nobody is going to fake a George VI half crown.

    2. I’m not planing to sell them, but what do you think about this kind of investment? Spending £200 on a “George V wreath crown” seems a bit too much, and in case I wanted to sell it I don’t know how liquid it would be because I am not a shop or a dealer. Not sure how many people would buy this kind of expensive coins from a particular.

Also, I love the history behind the coins themselves; how long a worker had to work to get them, what was the purchase power of them, the price of the food… Do you know where I can read about it? Any reliable book or website?

To end up the thread I show you some of my coins from the ongoing collection. From Queen Victoria I’ll get one of each head. And soon I’ll start with Edward VII.

    Thank You

    No!
Despite my advice about investing in precious metals:
Gold should be your first choice, because investment gold is exempt from VAT in the UK (& also EU).
Silver is still in big demand.
For example @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer has a standing request for 30,000 silver Britannias per month from the Royal Mint, although we have only been receiving 10,000.
We did manage a few days ago to buy an extra 20,000 from a fellow distributor / competitor, but these are for offshore storage, which legally avoids VAT for larger investors.
Of course, this still fails to equal the 3.2 tonnes of silver coins we once imported from Perth Mint, back in the days of the Credit / Banking crisis. that was quite a stack, a 7 pallet load on the back of a 7.5 tonne wagon, which  I drove. (From Manchester Airport, not from Western Australia).

It happens to my that all the gold I buy has to be 24 Carat; yellow and shiny.
I would love to get sovereigns but I don’t like the fact that they are brown and they are not pure gold.

Any advise for not getting scammed buying in the forum? The main reason I buy to dealers is because I don’t have to worry about that

All sellers and buyers on here have ratings and comments. On a forum like this the reputation is everything. There is also the option of using an intermediary and contributing to a group purchase. Read posts and you will get a feel for who is knowledg eable ( and the information you will get is excellent ).
Like you i was very wary of buying from strangers on here but have been very pleasantly surprised. This is not ebay.

Buying on the forum is cheaper if you subscribe as you’ll see things up for sale quicker. Dealers will charge more. If you can buy more at the same time you’ll get a bit of a discount but not much. But no reason why not to go and have a look. They are shops after all and I’m sure they have some good things to look at and purchase if something takes your fancy.

Sharps Pixley are in St James
Hatton Garden Metals and Baird Mint are in Hatton Garden
All 3 are well respected and I've used SP and HGM with no issues
All of them sell 1oz silver and bars
DYOR though as they will all be £30+ an Oz for coins and rounds at the minute.

    @CollectorNo1
Nothing has failed. Physical silver is being taken out of the hands of the banks and into private hands. The COMEX is being drained. SLV is being drained. The mints are being drained. The dealers are selling out.
i have a friend who is in the silver trade - i talked to him today, he tells me the market has been tight for months. Its is getting tighter. He says he is lied to everyday about how much physical there is.
Nothing has failed if you are referring to turning the screw. i don't want the price to shoot to the Moon - i want to load up more.
The silver market will not blow up this week or next week but paper market days are ticking down. Those on the dark side will lie and lie and lie. They know the jig is about up.
