If you are new to coin collecting, then I would advice you don't clean the medallion.
You might like to have a read of some online material before cleaning tarnished coins and medals. 😬

    Hello! Welcome to the forum.
You are in the right place with likeminded stackers and collectors to discuss anything on precious metals.

Happy to oblige, particularly pleased with the background which in no way makes this look like a photographers set from the 90's where they tried to take pictures of someone squalling brat

Yes, it is a cracking coin. But the premium is a bit high though, currently priced at £1729.

Look up the book "war is a racket" by most decorated of his time Major General Smedley Butler (July 30, 1881 – June 21, 1940), nicknamed the Maverick Marine, was a senior United States Marine Corps officer. During his 34-year career, he fought in the Philippine–American War, the Boxer Rebellion, the Mexican Revolution, and World War I.

At the time of his death, Butler was the most decorated Marine in U.S. history.
By the end of his career, Butler had received sixteen medals, including five for heroism; he is the only Marine to be awarded the Brevet Medal as well as two Medals of Honor, all for separate actions.

From his experiences below are some of his conclusions on life, society and world geopolitics

" I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.
WAR is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. "
Add these to reading " confessions of an economic hitman" by ex IMF/world bank gopher John Perkins in more recent times and you'll see nothing has really changed

I love the imagery and the symbolism. I have bought it as a gift for someone who has a great interest in Native American culture and particularly the Lakota.
